IWLCA Senior All-Star Rosters

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – Slippery Rock University senior defenders Nicole Masi and Amelia Nitsche were named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Division II Senior All-Star roster that was announced by the IWLCA Wednesday.

Masi and Nitsche will represent The Rock as members of the White Team in the Division II Senior All-Star game Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. at Tierney Field at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.

All three NCAA divisions will host their Senior All-Star games Saturday at the USA Lacrosse Headquarters with the Division III game set for 12:30 p.m. and the Division I game set for 3 p.m. Admission for all three games is free.

"I'm excited for Nikki and Meals to have a chance to play together one more time and be part of such a great event this weekend," said SRU head coach Taryn Burkholder. "They've both meant so much to our program over the last four years and this is a great reward for their dedication and commitment."

The Division II All-Star teams have been divided into two squads, the Blue Team and the White Team, with most of the Blue side coming from the South and Midwest regions and most of the White Team coming from the Atlantic and East regions. A few players from each region will play for the other side to ensure positional balance between the squads. The Blue Team will be coached by University of Tampa head coach Kelly Gallagher, while the White Team is coached by Seton Hill University head coach Dina Cifelli.

Masi and Nitsche both closed stellar SRU careers this spring as two of the top defenders in program history and vital pieces of the most successful four-year stretch in Slippery Rock lacrosse history. Masi finished her career with 81 caused turnovers to rank eighth all-time at SRU while she also grabbed 112 ground balls to rank 16th all-time at The Rock. She is one of just eight players in program history with at least 80 caused turnovers and 100 ground balls. Nitsche leaves the program as the all-time record holder in games played and games started after she started all 73 games of her career. She caused 69 turnovers to rank 12th all-time at SRU and picked up 99 ground balls to rank 20th all-time at The Rock.

The two senior defenders were part of a four-year senior class that won 53 games to mark the best four-year stretch in program history. The Rock put together a historic season this spring, going 18-3 overall and reaching the national semifinals in their first Division II tournament appearance. SRU was ranked No. 6 in the final IWLCA Division II national ranking, marking the highest postseason rank in program history and the only time the program has ever been ranked in the top 10 by the IWLCA.
