LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – For the sixth time in her Slippery Rock University women's tennis career, Amaia Balaguer Brau was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
 
Balaguer Brau garnered her sixth career PSAC West Athlete of the Week honor after helping Slippery Rock secure a home PSAC Tournament match with its regular season finale shutout of California (Pa.) last week.
 
In addition to teaming with Tina Slovak for a 6-0 victory against Diletta Maria Mungo and Garance Laforet from the second doubles flight, Balaguer Brau also beat Teddi Isherwood in her No. 1 singles match 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 to cap off SRU's win against the Vulcans.
 
Balaguer Brau – the No. 35 ranked singles athlete in the nation – has enjoyed a stellar junior campaign and is the odds-on favorite to repeat as PSAC West Athlete of the Year.
 
A winner in 10 straight matches, Balaguer Brau enters the postseason with a 23-8 overall singles record including a perfect 6-0 mark in PSAC West competition. Doubles play has seen Balaguer Brau go 17-6 while teaming primarily with Slovak.
 
Slippery Rock concluded the regular season on a five-match winning streak – all of which coming via shutout. SRU hosts California 3:30 p.m. Monday in the quarterfinals of the PSAC Tournament.
