SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Nicole Kempton and Alissia Kivi of the Slippery Rock University women's tennis team will compete against the best collegiate tennis athletes in the nation this week at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Cup.

WHAT IS THE ITA CUP?
The ITA Cup is the nation's premier individual championship for the Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College levels.

Formerly known as the Small College Nationals, the ITA Cup has history dating back to 1986, and it is the only singles and doubles national championship event for the Division II and NAIA levels. The ITA Cup features the champions from 60 regional ITA Championships and select at-large qualifiers from Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA. This year, more than 8,000 players took part in a total of 60 regional tournaments to gain entry into the ITA Cup field.

LOCATION
The 2025 ITA Cup will be held at the Rome Tennis Center on the campus of Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

FORMAT
Scoring
Divisional doubles matches will be best 2-out-of-3 sets, with a match tie-break played in lieu of the third set until the divisional final, which will be best 2-out-of-3 sets, with a full third set.

Who Made It
16 doubles teams from Division II earned spots in the 2025 ITA Cup, including eight automatic qualifiers who won their regional championships and eight at-large berths, including Kivi and Kempton.

Schedule
Round of 16: Thursday - 4 p.m.
Quarterfinals: Friday – 4:30 p.m.
Semifinals: Saturday – 5:30 p.m.
Championship: Sunday – 11 a.m.
*Consolation matches will happen Friday and Saturday

Matches
All athletes are guaranteed three matches with those reaching the finals playing a fourth match on Sunday.

The consolation draws are compass draws, meaning the losers from day one all drop to a consolation draw and then losers from the consolation draw will drop to a separate consolation draw after day two ensuring that players don't play the same opponents twice and that all 0-2 athletes are also playing athletes that have gone 0-2.

HOW THEY QUALIFIED
Kempton and Kivi earned the right to compete in the ITA Cup by garnering an at-large berth into the prestigious tournament.

Not only have Kivi and Kempton made the doubles tournament final at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships in back-to-back years, the talented duo has also produced a career record of 34-12 when playing together, including a 23-7 showing against fellow Division II competition.

After finishing last year ranked No. 38 in the ITA's national doubles rankings, Kempton and Kivi have begun this season with an 8-4 overall record, including a 5-1 mark against Division II competition.

The lone setback against another Division II team so far this year came in a narrow 2-6, 7-6, 12-10 decision to the University of Charleston's Filippa Larsson and Sara Martinez in the regional finals. Larsson and Martinez closed last season as the 22nd-ranked team in Division II.

THE DRAW
Kempton and Kivi's road to a Division II championship opens 4 p.m. Thursday against Carlota Verdu and Sandra Recuenco of the University of West Florida.

A victory over Verdu and Recuenco would send Slippery Rock into the quarterfinals 4:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of the Washburn University (Daniela Tijaro / Renske Ubachs) - Midwestern State University (Emilia Gyorgy / Camila Garcia Morales) first-round match.
