The Slippery Rock women’s tennis team was listed at No. 3 in the latest set of NCAA Atlantic Region rankings that were unveiled Wednesday by the DII Women’s Tennis Committee.

Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team was ranked third in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Committee unveiled the first ranked order list of regional rankings Wednesday.

The NCAA regional rankings determine the participants for the NCAA Tournament. The Atlantic Region consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), the Mountain East Conference (MEC), the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and select independent institutions within the region's borders.

All three conference tournament champions within the region receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament with the next four highest ranked teams in the final regional rankings receiving at-large bids.

Updated regional rankings will be released every Wednesday until the conclusion of the season. The official release of the 48-team field for the 2025 NCAA Tournament will be announced 8:30 p.m. May 5 on NCAA.com.

There are multiple factors taken into consideration to determine the playoff fields, including in-region winning percentage, winning percentage against Division II opponents, in-division strength of schedule and in-region strength of schedule. A detailed breakdown of all factors can be found HERE.

The University of Charleston was ranked first this week and followed in the top five by Indiana University (Pa.), The Rock, Fairmont State University and Salem University.

The remainder of the latest batch of Atlantic Region rankings consisted of Shaw University at No. 6 with Bloomsburg, Bluefield State University and East Stroudsburg University rounding out the poll.

Only results through April 20 were considered in this week's rankings, meaning Slippery Rock's 7-0 shutout Wednesday at California (Pa.) will be included in next week's rankings.

As its spot in the rankings indicates, Slippery Rock has one of the best tournament resumes in the entire Atlantic Region as it was 9-4 against fellow Division II opponents and 8-2 in regional competition at the time the rankings were conducted.

Slippery Rock is 2-2 against teams ranked in the Atlantic Region with wins over Salem and Fairmont State as well as losses to Charleston and Indiana.

No stranger to the postseason, Slippery Rock has qualified for the NCAA Tournament 21 times dating back to the 1995-96 season. More recently, SRU has earned a spot in the national tournament in each of the last six years the event has been held.

The Rock's regular-season finale victory Wednesday against California served as SRU's fifth consecutive shutout, improved its record to 11-8 overall and 5-1 inside the PSAC West in addition to clinching a home match in the PSAC Tournament quarterfinals 4 p.m. April 29 in what will be a rematch between Slippery Rock and California at the SRU Tennis Courts.
