LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University men's soccer goalkeeper
Alvey Kaufman was named the Pennsylvania State Athlete Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career, the conference office announced on Monday.
Kaufman, a sophomore Rockledge, Florida, earns Slippery Rock its second PSAC weekly award this year:
Cornelis Dedecker earned a PSAC award on Sept. 15. Kaufman is the 23
rd different men's soccer player to win a PSAC weekly award since 2004.
Kaufman guided Slippery Rock to a 1-1 week, totaling six saves on a .667 save percentage, while only allowing three goals for a 1.5 goals against average.
Slippery Rock cruised to a 1-0 win over Lock Haven University, before falling to Seton Hill University, 3-1.
Kaufman made two second half saves, preserving The Rock's 1-0 lead against the Bald Eagles and closing out the victory to start PSAC West play 1-0-0. As a result, Kaufman earned his first career shutout.
Against Seton Hill, he kept a clean sheet in the first half while making one save, followed by three saves in the second half against a relentless Griffins' attack to total a career-high four stops.
Kaufman now leads Slippery Rock with 17 saves and is tied with
Troy Nine with one shutout.
Slippery Rock will host back-to-back games this week at James Egli Field 4 p.m. Wednesday against Gannon University and 12 p.m. Saturday against California (Pa.).
