NO ROOM FOR ERROR
With back-to-back one-possession losses to Cal (Pa.) and Gannon, Slippery Rock's NCAA postseason streak is now in serious jeopardy. The Rock will have to win out the rest of the way and could still need help to extend their playoff streak to seven straight years. SRU entered this fall with the second longest active playoff streak in the country at six straight years, trailing only the 10 straight appearances by Ferris State. SRU has not missed the NCAA Playoffs since 2017.
Â
LAST THREE AGAINST THE BEST THREE
Slippery Rock will close the PSAC West portion of the schedule with three straight games against the top three teams in the current standings in IUP, Clarion and Edinboro. The Rock opened that stretch with a key win over IUP and will now host Clarion before closing the year divisional schedule at Edinboro next week.
Â
CLARION GUARANTEED OF WINNING SEASON
Clarion's six wins this fall are already more than the Golden Eagles had in the last two full seasons combined (2-9 in 2023, 3-8 in 2024). The 6-2 record entering this week guarantees the first winning season for the program since a 7-4 record in 2015. This fall marks the third winning season for the program since 2003 and signals a stark improvement in a short time from an 0-10 record in 2021 to a guaranteed winning season in 2025.
Â
RANKED SRU TEAMS ARE 11-0 AGAINST CLARION
This will mark just the 12th time in the series against Clarion that SRU will enter the game carrying a national ranking. The Rock are 11-0 all-time against Clarion when ranked dating back to the first ranked meeting in 1963. SRU is ranked for the sixth straight year entering its meeting with Clarion.
Â
COMING OFF A BYE
The Rock are coming off a bye last week with the schedule vacancy created when Mercyhurst left the PSAC last year. SRU played a rare 10-game schedule in both 2024 and 2025 but will return to 11 games in 2026. The Rock also faced Clarion last fall coming off the bye week and posted a 38-22 road win in that meeting.
Â
LAST GAME FOR SRU
Slippery Rock has not played since posting a 30-27 Homecoming win over rival and PSAC West leader IUP back on Oct. 18. The Rock outscored IUP 20-7 in the second half to erase a 20-10 halftime deficit and earn the comeback win.
DaOne Owens ran for two TD and threw for one and
JayJay Jordan rushed for 99 yards and one score, including a season-long 75-yard TD run. The Rock defense tallied four sacks and 10 pass breakups while limiting the nation's top-ranked passing offense to under 50 percent completions and no passing TD.
Â
LAST WEEK FOR CLARION
Clarion played its fourth straight one-possession game last week and came away with a 23-17 win at home against Seton Hill. The Golden Eagles lost 21-20 to Edinboro back on Sept. 27, beat Gannon 48-46 on a last second field goal Oct. 11, lost to California 31-28 on a last second long TD pass by the Vulcans on Oct. 18 and came away with a 23-17 win over Seton Hill last week in a stretch of four straight close games. Clarion outgained SHU 398-364 last week with 236 passing yards and 162 rushing yards. QB Anthony Guercio, who missed time earlier this year with an injury, ran for 88 yards on 17 carries and threw for 93 yards with one TD and two INT. Backup QB Jase Ferguson threw for 143 yards and one TD. Egan Holt caught four passes for 142 yards, including an 81-yard TD. PK Andrew Kurtas kicked three field goals (37, 20, 38) and scored 11 total points in the game.
Â
LAST MEETINGÂ |Â Box Score
No. 14 Slippery Rock broke open a 14-14 game with a 24-0 run to pull away for a 38-22 win last Halloween on the road at Clarion. The teams combined for 930 yards of offense with SRU posted a 510-420 edge with 399 passing yards and 111 rushing yards. Clarion ran for 216 yards and threw for 204 yards. SRU QB
Brayden Long threw for 399 yards with four TD and no INT. The only SRU player that accounted for any of those 520 yards of offense that is on this year's roster is tight end
Carson Heckathorn (6-yard catch) and he is injured and out for the season, meaning every yard of offense for SRU this year will come from a player that did not touch the ball in last year's game. Clarion got two rushing TD from QB Anthony Guercio and 136 receiving yards and one TD from Trevon Tate.

It marked his second TD of the season and his first TD grab since week three against Shippensburg.

PK

Roberts also saw his first missed PAT of the season against IUP and is now 34-of-35 on PAT kicks.
