Rock moves up to No. 22 in national poll

Slippery Rock moved up two spots to No. 22 in this week's Division II national poll released Monday by the American Football Coaches Association.

WACO, Texas – The Slippery Rock University football team moved up two spots to No. 22 in the NCAA Division II national rankings after the American Football Coaches Association released its updated national poll Monday.

The first set of NCAA Regional Rankings will be unveiled later in the day Monday, which will be the only rankings that matter in terms of determining which eight teams from each of the four Super Regions will qualify for the NCAA Playoffs. This first set of regional rankings announced later today will be in alphabetical order and will include the top 10 teams currently under consideration for the postseason.

The Rock extend their ranked streak that began 2,506 days ago and have now been nationally ranked in every poll released since the final poll of the 2018 season.

Slippery Rock was idle with a bye week last week but still climbed two places in this week's poll thanks to other results from around the country.

The top eight spots in this week's poll were unchanged. Defending national champion Ferris State remained atop the poll with all 31 first place votes, while Harding remained second, West Florida remained third, Kutztown stayed at No. 4. and Augustana (S.D.) stayed at No. 5.

The rest of the top 10 this week includes No. 6 Western Colorado, No. 7 Colorado State-Pueblo, No. 8 Central Washington, No. 9 Pittsburg State and No. 10 Virginia Union, which cracked the top 10 for the first time this year.

Kutztown and Slippery Rock remain the only two PSAC teams to be ranked in the top 25 this week and have been the only PSAC teams ranked in each poll this season. Indiana (Pa.) is the only other PSAC team mentioned this week with the Crimson Hawks picking up a handful of points.

No. 10 Virginia Union of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association and No. 19 Johnson C. Smith of the CIAA combined with the two PSAC teams and No. 24 Frostburg State from the Mountain East Conference to round out the five Super Region One teams in this week's top 25.

Assumption from the Northeast 10 Conference joins IUP as the only two teams from Super Region One to be listed in the "Others Receiving Votes" section of this week's poll.

Slippery Rock will return to action after the bye with a 1 p.m. home game this Saturday against a 6-2 Clarion team that is also in contention for postseason consideration. This week's game marks the final regular season home game for SRU this fall and the program will celebrate its seniors in a pregame ceremony and recognize the 25th anniversary of the four-year PSAC title run for the teams from 1997-00 at halftime.

A look at the updated AFCA national poll can be found below. This week's D2football.com poll is available HERE and does not include any PSAC teams other than Kutztown this week.
