SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team will wrap up the bulk of its non-conference schedule this weekend with two games in back-to-back days.
 
The Rock will first journey to Shippensburg University for an 11 a.m. Saturday tilt against the second-ranked Raiders before returning home to host Newberry College 12 p.m. Sunday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
LEAVE YOUR PETS AT HOME
Fans are reminded that there are NO PETS allowed at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, or in any SRU athletics facilities. Please do not bring dogs or any other pets to the game. Unless they are a registered service animal, you will be asked to remove your pet from the facility.

FIRST RESPONDERS DAY SUNDAY
In honor of the heroic service first responders make to protect the public on a daily basis and as a token of appreciation for all the great work they do each and every day to keep their respective communities safe, all first responders have been invited to attend Sunday's game.
 
Ryan Hanchosky, the Chief of the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Team, will take part in the ceremonial pass back.

SERIES HISTORY vs. SHIPPENSBURG
Shippensburg owns a 49-6-1 record against The Rock dating back to 1979. The Raiders have won 38 consecutive games including a 7-1 win in Shippensburg a year ago. Leslie Colliver, who assisted on Samantha Karmonick's goal last season against the Raiders, is the only active Rock athlete with a career point against SU.

THE SEASON SO FAR
Slippery Rock brings a 2-1 record into its two-game weekend after opening the season with a 1-0 win against Frostburg State and a 5-4 triumph at Adelphi followed by a 4-1 setback against No. 9 Pace.
 
ROCK TEAMS STATS
• Through three games Slippery Rock is averaging 2.7 goals per game courtesy of 13.7 attempts and 8.0 penalty corners a contest.
 
• Defensively, SRU has yielded 3.0 goals a contest on 17.3 attempts and 9.7 corners.
 
SECOND HALF SURGE
Slippery Rock's offense has been at its best in the final 30 minutes of games so far this season. Six of The Rock's eight goals have come in the third and fourth quarters as has 73 percent of their total shots (30-of-41) and 66.7 percent of their penalty corners (16-of-24).

FAVORITE DAY OF THE WEEK
Sunday's have been bountiful for Slippery Rock during head coach Rayell Wallace's tenure. Since her arrival, SRU has gone 6-4 when playing on Sunday's – the most wins and highest winning percentage (.600) of any day of the week for The Rock in the last five years.

TWO-HEADED MONSTER ON OFFENSE
Slippery Rock's offensive attack in three games this season has been spearheaded by the senior duo of Bailee Christman and Gianna Conti.
 
Christman leads the team in points on three goals and two assists while placing seven of her 10 attempts on target. Not to be outdone, Conti is at seven points thanks to three goals and one assist to go along with 10 shots on goal.
 
All told, Christman and Conti have combined to account for 75 percent of Slippery Rock's goal production and 58.6 percent of its shots on goal (17-of-29).
 
STOCKLER GETS ON THE BOARD
One of the highlights of The Rock's 5-4 victory at Adelphi came from freshman Feli Stockler, who notched her first career goal for what turned out to be the game-winning score.
 
SETTING UP THE OFFENSE
Slippery Rock has been credited with assists on seven of its eight goals this year. Bailee Christman and Hilary Hoffman are tied for the team lead with two assists apiece followed by Gianna Conti, Haley Metcalf and Hazara Sandhu at one each.
 
ROUNDING OUT THE ATTACK
Rounding out Slippery Rock's offensive leaders through the opening two games of the season is Leslie Colliver with one score on five shots on goal and Hilary Hoffman, who ranks second on the team in shots on goal with six.

ON THE DEFENSIVE
Goalkeeper Grace Burker has played all 180 minutes this season, making 18 saves for a .667 save percentage and a 3.00 Goals Against Average.
 
Christina Clymer enters Saturday with a team-best three defensive saves. SRU, which was awarded an uncommonly high seven defensive saves against Pace, also features four other field players with defensive saves this season in Roz Mikulak (2), Bailee Christman (1), Haley Metcalf (1) and Sammy Graci (1).
 
CONSISTENT LINEUP
Slippery Rock has had 10 athletes - Bailee Christman, Gianna Conti, Feli Stockler, Hilary Hoffman, Haley Metcalf, Hazara Sandhu, Megan Rude, Christina Clymer, Riley Cloude and Grace Burker – start all three games this season while Roz Mikulak has been in the starting lineup in each of the last two games.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Fresh off a 2-0 victory over No. 1 Kutztown on Wednesday, the Raiders welcome The Rock having won five straight games to open the season and outscoring their opponents 21-1.
 
Shippensburg leads the nation in GAA (0.20), save percentage (.950) and scoring margin (+4.00) while ranking fourth in goals per game (4.20), points per game (11.00) and assists per game (2.60).
 
The Raiders have already received goals from 10 different athletes this season, led by Agus Garibaldi's five. Garibaldi, who scored twice against The Rock last year, has also assisted on three goals for a team-leading 13 points.
 
Shippensburg's other multi-goal scorers include Alexa Michelsen (4), Mckenna Boyle (3) and Anne Gardner (3).
 
Goalkeeper Emma Albee has played every second this season, making 19 saves and giving up just one goal – a score by Assumption's Julia Carbone in a 3-1 Raider win.

SCOUTING THE WOLVES
The undefeated Wolves, which will play Mansfield at SRU Saturday in a neutral site game, have earned their undefeated record by way of a 7-0 win against Coker followed by three consecutive one-goal victories against Adelphi (4-3), Limestone (2-1) and Belmont Abbey (2-1).
 
As a team, Newberry averages 3.8 goals per game on 19.5 shots and 7.3 corners an outing. Defensively, NC gives up just 1.3 goals a contest via 6.8 shots and 4.5 corners.
 
The Newberry attack is led by Emma Westbrook, who enters the weekend with 11 points on five goals and one assist. Tamsin Bangert (3), Lieke Varenkamp (2) and Zoe Barker (2) have all scored multiple goals this season as well.
 
Goalkeeper Kyla Cooke carries a 1.69 GAA and a .615 save percentage into the Mansfield contest.
