2024 ABCA All-Region Teams

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University baseball standout Gage Gillott earned yet another postseason accolade Wednesday when he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association All-Atlantic Region Team.

Gillott, a redshirt sophomore pitcher / outfielder, was a first team selection by the ABCA as a starting pitcher. Wednesday's announcement officially makes Gillott a consensus all-region honoree for the 2024 season as he was previously voted a first team all-region performer by both the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

In earning consensus all-region status, Gillott joins an exclusive list of former Slippery Rock greats to accomplish the feat over the last 20 years.

Dating back to the 2004 season, Dan Herisko (2005), Phil Butch (2006, 2007), MJ Parsons (2007), Matt Adams (2007, 2008, 2009), Scott Bender (2008), Matt Howard (2011), Lou Trivino (2012), Will Kengor (2013, 2014), Adam Urbania (2015), Tyler Walters (2017, 2018), Joe Campagna (2018, 2019), Jon Kozarian (2021), Connor Hamilton (2021, 2022), Devin Dunn (2022), Alex Robenolt (2022), Luke Trueman (2023) and now GIllott have all been consensus all-region choices from The Rock.

As a first team selection, Gillott advances to the ABCA Division II All-America ballot. The 2024 ABCA All-America Team will be announced Friday.

If he were to be named an All-American by the ABCA, Gillott would be the 23rd All-American in program history. Slippery Rock has had at least one All-American in 12 of the past 13 years in which postseason awards have been distributed.

Prior to his all-region selections, Gillott was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Year in addition to earning All-PSAC West honors as both a starting pitcher (first team) and outfielder (second team).

Gillott was the first Rock athlete to be named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Year since Ron Wasko in 1986 and 1987. He also became the first Slippery Rock athlete to have earned all-conference honors in the same season as a pitcher and position player since Nate Thimons in 1999.

Gillott anchored SRU's starting rotation in his first season at The Rock. A transfer from USC Upstate, Gillott pitched 73.2 innings across 12 starts while going 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA, .211 opponent batting average, 1.00 WHIP, 70 strikeouts and walking just 18 batters. He threw six complete games, three of which were shutouts, in addition to also pitching six innings in another combined shutout.

On the national stage, Gillott ranks second in Division II in complete games, eighth in WHIP, 12th in ERA and 28th in hits allowed per nine innings (6.84). He surrendered three runs or less in 10 of his 12 starts in 2024.

Alongside his pitching prowess, Gillott was also one of The Rock's top batters in 2024. The Connellsville, Pennsylvania native hit .341 with 28 runs scored, one home run, 19 RBI and five stolen bases to go with a .488 slugging percentage and a .382 on-base percentage. Gillott posted 10 multi-hit games and reached base in 28 of his 34 starts.

Major award winners selected by the ABCA for the 2024 season included Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year Brent Francisco of East Stroudsburg University and Ethan Kiple of Frostburg State University, who earned ABCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year accolades.

The ABCA All-Region Teams are voted on by members of the ABCA and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee.

Founded in 1945, the American Baseball Coaches Association is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel.

Slippery Rock completed its 2024 season with a 28-18 overall record for the program's 34th winning season in the last 39 years. SRU also qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.
