SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - Slippery Rock University baseball standout Gage Gillott added a second all-region award to his growing collection of postseason accolades Thursday when he was named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Atlantic Region first team as a utility / pitcher.

The D2CCA All-Region teams are nominated for and voted on by the athletic communications professionals in each region. As a first team honoree, Gillott advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration. The D2CCA All-American Team will be unveiled on May 30.

Thursday's announcement completes the second leg of Gillott's bid to become Slippery Rock baseball's 17th consensus all-region athlete in program history. Gillott has already earned all-region accolades from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, leaving only the all-region team from the American Baseball Coaches Association left to be announced.

Prior to his all-region selections, Gillott was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Pitcher of the Year in addition to grabbing first team All-PSAC West honors as a starting pitcher and second team recognition as an outfielder.

In what is becoming a trend of versatile athletes coming from The Rock, SRU has now produced the last two first team all-region utility / pitchers by the D2CCA: Luke Trueman earned the honor a season ago.

After being used exclusively as a pitcher to begin his career at USC Upstate, Gillott transferred to Slippery Rock prior to the 2024 season and quickly established himself as one of the top two-way players in the region.

On the mound, Gillott anchored SRU's starting rotation by pitching 73.2 innings across 12 starts while going 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA, .211 opponent batting average, 1.00 WHIP, 70 strikeouts and walking just 18 batters. He threw six complete games, three of which were shutouts in addition to also pitching six innings in another combined shutout.

Alongside his pitching prowess, Gillott was also one of The Rock's top batters in 2024. The Connellsville, Pennsylvania native hit .341 with 28 runs scored, one home run, 19 RBI and five stolen bases to go with a .488 slugging percentage and a .382 on-base percentage. Gillott posted 10 multi-hit games and reached base in 28 of his 34 starts.

On the national stage, Gillott ranks second in Division II in complete games, eighth in WHIP, 12th in ERA and 28th in hits allowed per nine innings (6.84). He surrendered three runs or less in 10 of his 12 starts in 2024.

Major award winners selected by the D2CCA for the 2024 season included Atlantic Region Player of the Year Ethan Kiple of Frostburg State and Brent Francisco of East Stroudsburg. who earned Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year accolades.

If Gillott were to earn all-region honors from the ABCA he would join former Slippery Rock greats Dan Herisko (2005), Phil Butch (2006, 2007), MJ Parsons (2007), Matt Adams (2007, 2008, 2009), Scott Bender (2008), Matt Howard (2011), Lou Trivino (2012), Will Kengor (2013, 2014), Adam Urbania (2015), Tyler Walters (2017, 2018), Joe Campagna (2018, 2019), Jon Kozarian (2021), Connor Hamilton (2021, 2022), Devin Dunn (2022), Alex Robenolt (2022) and Trueman (2023) as consensus all-region award winners over the last 20 years.

Gillott was the first Rock athlete to be named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Year since Ron Wasko who earned the honor twice in 1986 and 1987. He also became the first Slippery Rock athlete to have earned all-conference honors in the same season as a pitcher and position player since Nate Thimons in 1999.

Slippery Rock recently completed its 2024 season with a 28-18 overall record for the program's 34th winning season in the last 39 years. SRU also qualified for the PSAC Tournament for the second time in the last three seasons.
