Balaguer Brau headlines Rock trio in ITA national rankings

Slippery Rock’s Amaia Balaguer Brau will enter the spring season as the No. 7 singles athlete in Division II while The Rock’s top doubles pairing of Nicole Kempton and Alissia Kivi were positioned 22nd by the ITA in the organization’s national rankings.

TEMPE, Ariz. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team was well-represented in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association latest Division II rankings that were released recently.
 
Headlining The Rock's representatives is Amaia Balaguer Brau, who will enter the spring season as the No. 7 singles athlete in the nation. Balaguer Brau's ranking is the highest positioning for a Rock athlete in program history.
 
Balaguer Brau earned her historic national ranking following a dominant fall campaign in which she went 9-3 overall won the ITA Atlantic Region championship to qualify for the prestigious ITA Cup. She has a three-year collegiate record of 46-14 (.767).
 
Also appearing in the national rankings for Slippery Rock is the doubles pairing of Nicole Kempton and Alissia Kivi who were positioned as 22nd doubles team in the country.
 
Kempton and Kivi collected a near flawless 10-2 record during the fall portion of The Rock's 2024-25 season with the lone setbacks coming against a Division I pairing from Colgate and to IUP's Dani Ramos / Ming Deewajee – the No. 4 team in the DII – in the finals of the ITA regional championships.
 
In addition to the national rankings, SRU also has a plethora of representatives in the Atlantic Region rankings.
 
Five Rock athletes are listed among the Atlantic Region singles top-20 with Balaguer Brau leading the way in the top spot followed by No. 6 Kivi (6-2), No. 10 Dari Sakhanova (6-2), No. 11 Kempton (5-2) and No. 20 Tina Slovak (1-3).
 
Additionally, SRU also has three of the top-10 doubles teams throughout the region in No. 2 Kempton / Kivi, No. 6 Slovak / Sakhanova (5-4) and No. 9 Balaguer Brau / Georgie Lancaster (2-3).
 
Slippery Rock officially opens its team portion of the season Jan. 31 against Carnegie Mellon University.
