LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University quarterback
Brayden Long was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Offensive Athlete of the Week in an announcement Monday by the league office.
Â
A junior from Hanover, Pennsylvania, Long earns his first career PSAC weekly award after making his third career start Saturday night against West Chester and leading The Rock to a 49-24 victory over the Golden Rams. The 49 points scored by SRU marked the highest offensive output by any PSAC team in the week two crossover games.
Â
Long put together his first career 300-yard passing performance and was nearly flawless in leading a dominant offensive showing. He completed 19-of-24 passes for 312 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. Those TD passes included two perfectly thrown deep balls to
Kyle Sheets with one going for a 74-yard touchdown and the other going for a 49-yard touchdown.
Â
Slippery Rock put up 544 yards of offense Saturday night and did not turn the ball over for the second straight week. Entering the third week of the season, The Rock are one of only nine teams in Division II that have not turned the ball over on offense.
Â
Long is completing 71.4 percent of his passes and has thrown for 450 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions through the first two weeks of the season. He and The Rock offense lead all teams in the PSAC in passing efficiency.
Â
Slippery Rock will welcome an upstart Millersville team in week three for the annual White Out game (
official shirts available at the SGA Bookstore) with a 6 p.m. kickoff Saturday night at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium. The Marauders are coming off a road win at Gannon last week and are 2-0 for the first time since 2005. Saturday is also the 20th Annual
Slippery Rock VillageFest with a full day of activities planned on Main Street in downtown Slippery Rock all day leading up to the game.
