2025 CSC Academic All-America Team
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University football safety
Michael Henwood was named to first team Academic All-America honors when the College Sports Communicators announced the 2025 Football Academic All-America teams Tuesday.
Â
Henwood, a senior from Hermitage, Pennsylvania, becomes a two-time Academic All-American after also being named to second team honors last year.
Â
In order to be named to the Academic All-America team, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, must maintain a GPA above 3.50 and must have significant athletic credentials. Henwood was one of six SRU players to earn Academic All-District honors and is the lone SRU representative on this year's Academic All-America squad.
Â
The Academic All-America award is the latest in a growing list of academic honors for Henwood, who was named to PSAC Fall Top 10 honors and Academic All-PSAC honors from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference earlier this year.
Â
He was also a semifinalist for the William Campbell Trophy in the fall, was the SRU nominee for the All-State Good Works team and became a three-time Academic All-District honoree from CSC.
Â
Henwood owns a perfect 4.0 GPA after more than 135 credit hours while majoring in exercise science with the intention of attending medical school after SRU. He is a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete and four-time D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement honoree.
Â
On the field this fall, Henwood led Slippery Rock in total tackles and solo tackles for the second year in a row on his way to earning All-PSAC honors. He finished with 67 tackles, 42 solo stops and a team-high two interceptions, one of which he returned for his first career touchdown in a win over Clarion. Henwood was one of only four SRU defensive players to start every game this year and closed his career by starting all 24 games in 2024 and 2025. He helped the team to four NCAA playoff appearances during his tenure, including a trip to the national semifinals in 2024.
Â
Henwood becomes the 152nd SRU student-athlete to earn Academic All-America honors since the program's inception in 1970. That total leads all schools in the Atlantic Region and ranks in the top 10 among all NCAA Division II institutions.
