USTFCCCA Announcement

NEW ORLEANS – Slippery Rock University track & field head coach Bill Jordan was named the Atlantic Region Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year in an announcement from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Monday afternoon.

Jordan picks up his first career award as a head coach after leading The Rock women's outdoor track & field team to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title this spring in his first year as the head coach at Slippery Rock.

The USTFCCCA awards are voted on by the coaches in each region. The Atlantic Region includes all schools in the PSAC, the Mountain East Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Shippensburg University's Dave Osanitsch earned the Men's Coach of the Year award in the region, giving the PSAC a sweep of the regional coaching awards.

Jordan, who took over the program in 2022-23 after the retirement of John Papa, led The Rock women to their 17th overall PSAC title in outdoor track & field and their first since the 2019 season.

Slippery Rock qualified at least one athlete to compete in every event at the 2023 PSAC Outdoor Championships and scored points in 19 of the 21 total events contested. The Rock women came away with at least one top-three finisher in 11 events, giving SRU an All-PSAC honoree in more than half of the events contested at the championships.

SRU picked up three PSAC individual titles this spring with Anna Igims winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Trinity Clark winning the javelin and Sarah Corrie winning the shot put. Igims and Clark went on to compete at the National Championships and both earned top-15 finishes in their respective events.

Slippery Rock also had two school records fall this spring in Jordan's first season at the helm. Igims broke the 3,000-meter steeplechase record (10:39) and Tiffany Jolayemi broke the school record in the hammer (54.20 meters).

In addition to the excellence in competition, Slippery Rock's track & field program shined in the classroom as well, recording above a 3.0 cumulative GPA for both the men's and women's teams with a combined roster of more than 100 student-athletes. Jolayemi earned the PSAC Champion Scholar Award for owning the highest GPA of any women competing at the PSAC Championships this spring, while Ethan Brentham claimed the same honor on the men's side at the PSAC Indoor Championships.

Slippery Rock finished the year ranked No. 1 in the Atlantic Region on the women's side and No. 3 on the men's side to cap a stellar first year for Jordan as The Rock's head coach.
