NCAA Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team was ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region when the NCAA Lacrosse Committee announced its first numerical list of regional rankings Wednesday.

The NCAA regional rankings ultimately determine the participants for the NCAA Tournament. The top four teams in each region in the final rankings will earn a berth in the national playoffs. The Atlantic Region consists of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) and includes a total of 25 colleges with women's lacrosse teams.

All six teams in the regional rankings come from the PSAC with three from the Eastern Division owning the top three spots and three from the Western Division ranked Nos. 4-6. Undefeated and No. 1 nationally ranked West Chester sits at No. 1 in the rankings, followed by East Stoudsburg, Kutztown, Seton Hill, Indiana (Pa.) and Slippery Rock.

The Rock, which picked up a win over Edinboro earlier in the day Wednesday, own a 10-6 overall record and a 9-5 record against regional opponents with four of those five losses coming to other teams in this week's regional rankings.

SRU has never qualified for the NCAA Tournament since bringing the sport of women's lacrosse back to the varsity level in 2007. The only other time SRU has appeared in the regional rankings as one of the top six teams in the region was the 2018 season.

Slippery Rock has a steep hill to climb to move past two of the teams ahead of it in this week's rankings and likely needs at least three more wins, which would include a pair of upsets in the PSAC Playoffs, to get into the top four conversation. The Rock have one game remaining in the regular season with Mercyhurst set to visit Saturday for a 1 p.m. game. The winner of that game will qualify for the PSAC Playoffs and travel to Indiana (Pa.) for the first round of the conference tournament next week. If SRU were to lose that game Saturday, it would mark the end of the season.
