Hampshire Honor Society Announcement

IRVING, Texas – Five players from the 2022 Slippery Rock University football team were announced this week as Hampshire Honor Society members by the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame in recognition of their academic and athletic achievements.

In order to be named to the Hampshire Honor Society, a student-athlete must have completed their final year of eligibility in the fall, must own a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.2 or above and must have been a starter or significant contributor during the 2022 season.

Slippery Rock's five players that were recognized are linebacker Brandon Bischof, punter Kyle Butts, quarterback Noah Grover, linebacker Isaiah Manning and offensive tackle Anthony Rebar.

Grover, The Rock's starting quarterback, headlines the list of SRU honorees after earning Academic All-America honors in the fall and being one of the 13 Division II players named as a semifinalist for the Campbell Trophy.

Four of the five seniors already have at least their undergraduate degrees and all five made a significant impact for a Slippery Rock program that won four straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division titles and reached the NCAA Playoffs four straight years. The Rock reached at least the second round of the NCAA Playoffs three times in the last four seasons.

Bischof, a linebacker from Akron, Ohio, earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science with a 3.22 cumulative GPA at the University of Akron. He transferred into SRU for his final year of eligibility in 2022 and started all 13 games. He finished the season with 69 total tackles, including 5.0 tackles for loss and a half-sack. He also pulled down three interceptions and broke up five passes.

Butts, a punter from Clarksville, Maryland, earned his undergraduate degree in management with a 3.30 cumulative GPA from Monmouth and wrapped up his master's degree coursework in business management at SRU in the fall with a 3.70 GPA. On the field, Butts appeared in 24 games over two seasons at SRU, where he served as the punter and kickoff specialist. He tallied 3,037 punting yards, averaging 37.0 yards per punt on 82 attempts. Butts landed 32 kicks inside the 20-yard line and had a career-long of 69 yards.

Grover, a quarterback from Phoenix, Arizona, graduated from SRU with a degree in industrial and systems engineering with a 3.82 GPA. On the field, Grover was an All-PSAC honoree and an honorable mention All-American in 2022 after putting together his best career year as a senior. In 20 appearances at SRU, Grover completed a program record 65 percent of his passes for 4,882 yards with 45 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He leaves SRU ranked fourth in program history in TD passes and completions and sixth in passing yards. Grover also owns the single-game SRU record for passing TDs when he threw eight TDs against Gannon in his first career start at The Rock.

Manning, a linebacker from Meadville, Pennsylvania, was a four-year member of the SRU football program and earned his undergraduate degree in safety management with a 3.24 GPA. On the field, Manning appeared in 30 games over three seasons. He racked up 80 total tackles, including 6.0 tackles for loss and a half-sack. He also pulled down one interception.

Rebar, an offensive lineman from Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania, is currently in his final semester at Slippery Rock and carries a 3.46 GPA as a finance major. He has one more season of eligibility, but has elected to graduate and forego that final season. On the field, Rebar was The Rock's starting right tackle for the 2023 season and made 14 starts over the last two seasons. He helped pave the way for one of the most productive units in Super Region One as Slippery Rock averaged 30.8 points per game and 400.4 yards of total offense per game.

The Hampshire Honor Society recognized a total of 1,734 players from 328 colleges and universities at all levels of college football.
