Regional Rankings
Â
INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University football team stayed at No. 1 in the Super Region One rankings when the NCAA Division II Football Committee unveiled the second ranked order list of Super Regional rankings Monday.
Â
The Super Region rankings are the only rankings that matter when it comes to determining which seven teams from each of the four Super Regions will make the NCAA Playoffs. Monday's rankings are the final public ranking that will be released before the NCAA announces the playoff field during the Selection Show Sunday evening at 6 p.m. on ncaa.com.
Â
There are multiple factors taken into consideration to determine the playoff fields, including in-region winning percentage, winning percentage against Division II opponents, weighted strength of schedule, head-to-head competition, results against common opponents, results against teams above .500, results against ranked teams and the NCAA performance indicator. More information on the process is available HERE.
Â
Super Region One includes 46 total teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Mountain East Conference, the Northeast 10 Conference and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, along with one independent school (Post).
Â
Slippery Rock sits atop the second set of rankings in the coveted No. 1 position, which comes with a first round bye and homefield advantage in the playoffs for the four teams that eventually earn the No. 1 seeds in each super region. Undefeated Tiffin from the GMAC sits second, followed by Charleston from the Mountain East as the top three were unchanged this week.
Â
The bottom seven teams in the region all shuffled positions this week with California (Pa.) from the PSAC West moving up to No. 4, Kutztown from the PSAC East moving up to No. 5, Shepherd from the PSAC East moving up to No. 6 and East Stroudsburg from the PSAC East sliding down to No. 7.
Â
Fairmont State from the Mountain East sits at No. 8, followed by Frostburg State of the Mountain East at No. 9 and New Haven from the Northeast 10 at No. 10.
Â
There are numerous games in the region this week that can shake up the rankings before Sunday's selections are announced, including Slippery Rock traveling to Kutztown for the PSAC title game. The Rock are likely already locked into the playoffs regardless of Saturday's result, but a win most likely locks up the No. 1 seed. California plays at East Stroudsburg this week, Fairmont State and Frostburg State play each other this week, Tiffin will play 7-3 Findlay and New Haven will have a tough test with Bentley.
Â
The Rock are one of two undefeated teams in the region and one of just five undefeated teams left in Division II. Super Region One is the only region remaining with more than one undefeated team. Super Region Two is led by 10-0 Benedict, Super Region Three is led by 10-0 Harding and Super Region Four is led by 10-0 Colorado School of Mines.
Â
Slippery Rock is looking to qualify for the NCAA Playoffs for the fifth straight season after entering this year tied for the third-longest active playoff streak in Division II.
