INDIANA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University volleyball team opened its weekend on a down note Friday in a three-set Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division loss at Indiana University (Pa.).

The Crimson Hawks (11-9, 2-3 PSAC West) earned the win over Slippery Rock (4-14, 1-4 PSAC West) with 25-10, 26-24, 25-13 set victories.

Erica Selfridge recorded a team-high nine kills on a .280 attack percentage while also making 10 digs in the near double-double performance.
Chelsie Wheeler added seven kills on just 15 attempts (.400) to go with one ace while
Abigail Koeller and
Sydney Ryan contributed five kills apiece to round out The Rock's attack.

Setters
Peytan Gullickson and
Taylor Fellers guided SRU's offense with 18 and 10 assists, respectively. In addition to serving a Rock-best two aces,
Kate Lachendro also compiled 13 digs.
Mary Berger added a pair of blocks as well to bolster Slippery Rock's defensive efforts. Â

IUP jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead in the opening set to force a Slippery Rock timeout. However, the break in play did not stop the Crimson Hawks' momentum as Indiana cruised to a 25-10 win in the opener.

The Rock and Crimson Hawks played to a 6-6 tie to start the second set before The Rock went on a 4-1 run to pull ahead 10-7. IUP answered back, eventually tying the contest at 12-12 before Slippery Rock responded by posting three more unanswered points to re-take the lead at 15-12 and force IUP to take a timeout.

The back-and-forth play continued between the two evenly matched teams for the remainder of the set, but with the game tied at 24-24 Indiana was able to capture the set's final two points via a Caroline Walsh kill and a Lexi Hraga ace.

Indiana then took the first three points of the third set and never trailed on the way to the match-deciding 25-13 victory.

For the match, the Crimson Hawks held advantages over The Rock in kills (45-33), attack percentage (.419-.198), aces (9-3) and total blocks (6-2). Nicole Peterson had 12 kills and four aces to lead IUP Friday.
