SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team will begin the spring portion of its 2019-20 schedule when it makes a trip to the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania to face Carnegie Mellon University on the road 6 p.m. Friday.

SERIES HISTORY
Carnegie Mellon, which is ranked seventh in NCAA Division III out of the University Athletic Association, holds a 13-0 record in the all-time series over Slippery Rock. The Tartans defeated The Rock 7-0 a year ago. The Rock has faced the Tartans every year dating back to 2007.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
Fall Recap:Â Slippery Rock recorded two dual match victories in the fall with back-to-back 7-0 victories against Kutztown University and Shepherd University. SRU also sent individuals to the Oberlin College Invitational, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic Region Championships, the IUP Invite, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Individual Championships and the ITA Cup.Â

• SRU's doubles lineup is led by the duo of senior
Viola Lugmayr and sophomore
Lois Page. The Rock's top doubles team enters the spring portion of the season holding an impressive 12-1 overall record while being ranked 15th in the nation, and first in the Atlantic Region, by the ITA.
• Lugmary and Page had a historic fall, winning the ITA Atlantic Regional and PSAC doubles titles as well as qualifying for the prestigious ITA Cup.

• Senior
Lacey Cohen sits at a solid 10-3 overall record in singles competition this season competing out of the top flight. Cohen enters the spring ranked sixth in program history with 117 career victories (singles + doubles).

• While she did not compete in either of The Rock's dual matches in the fall, fellow  Lugmayr tallied a 7-3 record in individual tournament matches. Included in her tournament victories was a performance at the PSAC Individual Championships in which she earned tournament runner-up honors.

• Freshman
Pia Bruckmayer (11-2) and Page (10-3) join Cohen in double-digit win totals for SRU. Bruckmayer and Page both competed out of the second and third flights in the fall.

• The back half of the Rock's singles lineup in the fall featured junior
Lauren Fadden (5-4 overall) and freshman
Lindsey Fadden (5-5 overall).

• Junior
Amy Varckette posted a stellar 12-1 overall singles record with identical 1-0 records out of the in the fifth and sixth flights to go with a solid individual tournament showing of 10-1. Varckette was also 8-2 in doubles matches in the fall.

• Slippery Rock's roster also features junior
Olivia Warner, who sat out the fall. A year ago, Warner compiled an overall record of 19-10 and earned All-PSAC West doubles accolades with a 22-7 mark teaming primarily with Cohen.

SCOUTING THE TARTANS
• The top of the Tartans' singles lineup features Danna Taylor (No. 1 / 12-0), Lauren James (No. 2 / 11-2) Bin Zheng (No. 2 / 6-4) and Vinaya Rao (No. 3 / 6-4).

• Lindy Cornwall (7-2) and Madeline Fidel (8-2) have both spent time in the fourth, fifth, and sixth flights as well this season.

• As a team, Taylor and Courtney Ollis mainly compete out of the first doubles flight and are 9-1 overall. Cornwall and Zheng hold the second doubles position and are currently 9-2 overall.

• Carnegie Mellon's head coach Andrew Girard is in his 16th season at CMU. Girard has built the program into a national power as 14 of the past 15 seasons have seen the team reach the NCAA postseason.

Slippery Rock will play at Notre Dame College 3 p.m. Feb. 22. Slippery Rock defeated the Falcons, 7-0, a season ago.
