This marks the fifth in a series of daily journals that will be written by members of the SRU women's soccer team and staff during their nine-day trip to Costa Rica. The following entries, written by players on the team, details Aug. 10.
Â
Today was our first full day on the pacific coast in Santa Cruz. We began with some teammates participating in a yoga run by the hotel. This was a great way to prepare mentally and physically for a day of soccer in high temperatures and humidity.
Â
Much like we do prior to conference matches, we then walked through some positioning and situational game-like scenarios. These sessions prepare us for our upcoming competition and are a time for coaches and players to clarify expectations.Â
Â
We then traveled to Liberia for our third and final match in Costa Rica. All of our games here have been beneficial towards us being comfortable and adaptable to various field performances. After the match, we took time to interact with our opponent to exchange some words of gratitude and appreciation for the chance to play here.
Â
We have brought a gift to our opponents after every game on the trip as a token of appreciation. Today's gift was our once worn soccer pants. They were very appreciative and thankful for them. It took us by surprise when one of the opposing players shared that her family lives an hour from Cleveland, Ohio. To have traveled so far, we never could've imagined to discover a comforting connection like this.Â
Â
We look forward to our final days in Costa Rica by unwinding from athletic competition and spending quality time together before we head back to Slippery Rock for the preseason.Â
