Rock returns to PSAC play at Bloomsburg

Following two straight non-conference games, Slippery Rock returns to PSAC competition 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Following back-to-back non-conference games, the Slippery Rock University men's soccer team returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference competition 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg University.

Bloomsburg came away with a 3-2 overtime victory over The Rock a season ago on Oct. 3, 2015. Justin Minda and Ryan Lutke scored goals for The Rock. Mike Pcholinsky assisted on Minda's goal.

SCOUTING THE ROCK
Last Time Out: Slippery Rock dropped 1-0 decision after an early second-half goal by Salem International Sept. 27 at James Egli Field in non-conference play.
 
• Slippery Rock has proven to have one of the best defenses in the PSAC this season. Through eight games, SRU has allowed just 10 goals, the fourth lowest in the PSAC and 34 shots on goal, the third fewest in the conference. Six of The Rock's goals allowed and 17 of the shots on goal came in two games (at Millersville and versus Mercyhurst).
 
• Slippery Rock has allowed just three first-half goals this season. Since the 2003 season only the 2010 Slippery Rock team has allowed fewer than five first-half goals in a season with four.
 
• Goalkeeper Jonathan Sharp has started six games (500:01) for The Rock and is 2-4 with 21 saves, a .750 save percentage and a 1.26 goals against average. Backup goalie Steve Rerick has seen time in three games (238:33), two of which have been starts, and is 0-1-1 with 13 saves, a .812 save percentage and a 1.13 goals against average.
 
Jacob Thiel has scored two goals over The Rock's last three games and currently leads the team in both goals scored (two) and total points (four).
 
Nick Sodini, Justin Minda and Ethan Augustin all have one goal as well.
 
• Sodini leads Slippery Rock with seven shots on goal followed by George Oakley (six), Pcholinsky (four), Minda (three), Thiel (two), Augustin (two) and Patrick Sullivan (two).
 
• In addition to ranking third on the team in shots on goal, Pcholinsky also leads The Rock in assists with two. Sodini, Minda and Anthony Werth also have one assist each.
 
• Minda and Pcholinsky have a goal and assist, respectively, over their careers against Bloomsburg with Oakley, Minda, Pcholinsky and Kyle Boyer having all taken shots on goal throughout their time at Slippery Rock against the Huskies.
 
• Following Saturday's game Slippery Rock will play five of its final seven regular season games at home. SRU is 24-15-4 in home games over the last four years.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Last Time Out: Bloomsburg lost a non-conference game to Philadelphia University in overtime, 3-2, Sept. 28.
 
• Bloomsburg comes into this weekend's game having lost five straight and in desperate need of a win. The Huskies' lone win this season came in its season-opener against Felician College on Sept. 1.
 
• Austin Transue has a team-high three goals. Seth Walter, Mike Bazadona, Ken Hermann, Josh Smith and Clyaton Newton all have one goal apiece. Transue also has one assist for Bloomsburg as does Walter and Bazadona.
 
• Goalkeeper Jacob Pesarcik has started seven games (656:29) for Bloomsburg and is 1-5-1 with 46 saves, a .767 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average. Reserve goalkeeper Taylor LeSage has started twice for the Huskies, including their most recent game against Philadelphia, and is 0-2 with six saves, a .545 save percentage and a 2.41 goals against average.
 
• Bloomsburg is currently ranked ninth in the PSAC in goals scored (eight) and 11th in goals allowed (19).
