MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team concluded its 2016 regular season schedule with a 9-0 victory against the University of Charleston Saturday afternoon in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The win all but assures that Slippery Rock will earn an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament as Charleston entered the match ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region, one spot ahead of SRU. The top seven teams in the final regional rankings will earn bids into the NCAA Tournament.

The victory, SRU's seventh in its last eight matches, improves The Rock's record to 14-9 on the year overall. Charleston drops to 16-7 with the loss. Slippery Rock's 14 wins are the most in a single-season by a Rock team since the 2011-12 squad won 15 matches.

Slippery Rock pulled out to a 2-0 lead on the Golden Eagles with matching 8-2 wins from its No. 1 (Carla Corrochano Moracho / Tiffany Kollah) and No. 3 (Stephanie Fortier / Kylee Woodman) doubles teams. Fortier and Woodman are now 7-1 on the year.

Nina Barbano and Amanda Bruscemi kept the shutout alive at second doubles with a tight 9-7 win against Taylor Todd and Jackie Bakos. Bruscemi and Barbano exit the regular season with an impressive 8-1 record.

After a dominant doubles effort by SRU, the backend of The Rock's singles lineup clinched the match. Fortier beat Madeline Caropino 6-0, 6-1 at fifth singles and Allie Welch downed Taylor Youell 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth flight for Slippery Rock's fifth point.

Kollah kept the momentum going for The Rock with a 6-3, 6-1 in the third flight over Bakos followed by Bruscemi defeating Todd 6-4, 6-2 in the fourth slot.

SRU's top two singles players ended the match with two more victories as Corrochano Elise Edwards 6-4, 6-3 and Barbano beat Ana Maria Pena 4-6, 6-0, 10-8 in the closest match of the afternoon.

All eight Rock athletes to participate in a singles match this season have at least a .500 record heading into the postseason. Barbano is 17-10 followed by Corrochano (14-9), Kollah (14-11), Welch (14-11), Fortier (9-9), Woodman (6-5) and Courtney Gallagher (1-0).

Slippery Rock will learn its postseason fate May 3 when the NCAA releases the complete 2016 tournament field. If SRU qualifies for the NCAA Tournament it will mark the 14th appearance in the national tournament in program history.
