SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team continued its strong push towards the end of the regular season with a convincing 6-3 win against Edinboro University Thursday afternoon at the SRU Tennis Courts.

The win was Slippery Rock's fifth straight victory, improving its record to 12-8 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division. The loss drops Edinboro's record to 11-7 overall and 1-2 in league play.

The 12 victories ensure Slippery Rock of the 29th winning season in program history. Additionally, the five-match winning steak is the longest by a Rock team since the 2012-13 squad won seven straight matches.

Once again, Slippery Rock was spurred on to victory thanks to an overpowering doubles lineup that allowed SRU to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead on the Fighting Scots. Slippery Rock has now won 12 doubles matches in a row.

Stephanie Fortier and Kylee Woodman posted an 8-2 win from third doubles against Anastasiya Dasik and Tatiana Batalla for The Rock's first win of the afternoon.

SRU's No. 1 and No. 2 doubles teams followed suit with matching 8-5 wins. Amanda Bruscemi and Nina Barbano downed Julia Hellstern and Jelena Vucenovic while Carla Corrochano Moracho and Tiffany Kollah bested Roxana Ye and Laura Lopez.

Slippery Rock quickly clinched the match in the early stages of singles competition as Barbano defeated Dasik 6-1, 6-1 from the second flight followed by Fortier earning the match-deciding point with a 6-1, 6-1 win in versus Vucenovic in the fifth slot.

With the match already decided, the Fighting Scots took the final two contests of the evening with wins at third and sixth singles.

Slippery Rock now turns its attention to its match at No. 18 California (Pa.) on Saturday. A win over the Vulcans would go a long way in The Rock's quest to climb the regional rankings and earn a berth into the NCAA Tournament. Saturday's match is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
