BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team snapped its four-match losing streak with a pair of impressive wins Sunday as part of Bloomsburg Duals at the Burt Reese Tennis Center in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.

The Rock began the day with a 7-2 win over Goldey-Beacom College before concluding the event with a 5-0 win against host Bloomsburg University. The wins improve The Rock's record to 9-8 on the year overall. The Rock's doubles pairings won five of their six matches Sunday.

SLIPPERY ROCK 7 – GOLDEY-BEACOM 2
SRU jumped out to a quick 2-1 lead in doubles play and carried over its success into singles competition where The Rock took five of the six bouts en route to the victory.

Slippery Rock's doubles wins came out of the second and third flights from the teams of Nina Barbano and Amanda Bruscemi as well as Stephanie Fortier and Kylee Woodman. Barbano and Bruscemi beat Amina Mrad and Pauline Rozet, 8-6, in the second slot. Fortier and Woodman were 8-3 winners over Francesca Beg and Mauela Cornejo in the third flight.

Goldey-Beacom avoided the doubles sweep with a narrow 9-8 victory by Nina Sengl and Merel Ann van Zanten over Carla Corrochano Moracho and Tiffany Kollah.

However, any thoughts of a Goldey-Beacom comeback were promptly put to rest when Bruscemi and Allie Welch picked up two quick singles wins from the fourth and sixth flights after their opponents retired during the first set of both matches.

SRU's other three wins in the match came from Corrochano (6-1, 2-6, 6-4 against Beg), Barbano (7-3, 6-3 versus Mrad) and Kollah (6-4, 6-4 against Sengl). Barbano has won three consecutive matches to increase her record to 13-9 in 2015-16.

Goldey-Beacom's lone singles win came in the fifth flight when van Zanten bested Forrtier 6-2, 6-4.

SLIPPERY ROCK 5 – BLOOMSBURG 0
The Rock's second match of the day was never in doubt as a dominating doubles performance gave way to two singles wins that gave SRU the shutout win.

Fortier and Woodman were 8-0 victors at No. 3 doubles against Ana Newcomer and Meredith Endy while Corrochano and Kollah as well as Barbano and Bruscemi were both 8-1 winners at first and second doubles, respectively. The teams of Fortier / Woodman and Barbano / Bruscemi are each 3-0 on the year.

Woodman followed up her doubles shutout with another blanking at No. 6 singles where she defeated Siena Cerra 6-0, 6-0. The Rock's other singles win came from the third flight in the form of a 6-1, 6-0 victory by Bruscemi over Cassandra Wentz. With SRU already guaranteed the win the final four singles matches were stopped due to time constraints.

Both Woodman and Bruscemi have won their last two matches to improve their records to 5-4 and 9-9, respectfully, on the season.

Slippery Rock starts a three-match homestand 4 p.m. April 12 against PSAC West rival Seton Hill University.
