COCOA BEACH, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team opened its spring trip in fine fashion Monday with a 9-0 shutout win against Southern Indiana at the Cocoa Beach Racquet Club.

The win, SRU's second in its last three matches, improves The Rock's record to 5-3 on the season. Southern Indiana drops to 2-5 with the loss.

Slippery Rock's top doubles pairing of
Nina Barbano and
Carla Corrochano Moracho got The Rock started with a quick 8-3 win over Elizabeth Wilm and Brenna Wu. Barbano and Corrochano are now an impressive 8-3 on the year.

Kylee Woodman and
Tiffany Kollah followed suit with an 8-4 triumph at third doubles over Jennifer Mizikar and Haley Jones.

In the closes contest of the doubles matches,
Stephanie Fortier and
Amanda Bruscemi edged Kelsey Shipman and Kymberly Brannon, 8-5, to give The Rock a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

Woodman continued The Rock's dominance on the day with the first win in the singles bouts via a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Jones from the sixth flight.

Fortier then sealed the match for The Rock with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Brannon at fourth singles for The Rock's match-clinching fifth point.

Slippery Rock concluded the afternoon with quality wins by Barbano (6-3, 6-2),
Allie Welch (6-3, 1-6, 10-4), Corrochano (6-4, 6-2) and Bruscemi (3-6, 7-5, 10-0). Welch and Bruscemi have both won three straight matches while Barbano now has a team-high nine wins on the season.

SRU will look for its second consecutive win 2:30 p.m. Tuesday when it plays Walsh University in Melbourne, Florida.
