ResultsDAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's team lost a 9-0 decision to Embry-Riddle University Saturday afternoon at the Crotty Tennis Complex in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Slippery Rock ends its time in Florida with an overall record of 7-5. Embry-Riddle improved to 3-4 on the year with the win.
The pairing of Meena Bennett and Giovanna Tomiotto started the day with an 8-2 win against
Tiffany Kollah and
Kylee Woodman at third singles before Hui-l Huang and Anna Gotz claimed an 8-3 win against
Carla Corrochano Moracho and
Nina Barbano in the first flight. Kathryn Bock and Paula Ortiz Couder made it a 3-0 match with an 8-2 triumph against
Stephanie Fortier and
Amanda Bruscemi at second singles.
Bennett opened singles competition with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the sixth flight against
Allie Welch while Gotz clinched the team victory for ERU with a 6-3, 6-0 win at second singles against Barbano.
Rounding out singles play was Bock besting Fortier in the fifth slot (6-0, 6-1), Tomiotto edging Bruscemi at fourth singles (6-2, 6-0), Couder getting by Kollah in the third flight (6-2, 6-0) and Huang barely beating Corrochano (6-4, 6-4) at No. 1 singles.
Slippery Rock, which has won three out of its last five matches, returns to action 6 p.m. March 18 against Grove City College before beginning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at home March 25 versus Indiana (Pa.).
