MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team overcame a 2-1 deficit following doubles play by winning five singles matches to earn a 6-3 win over Eastern Florida State College Friday.

The win, SRU's third in its last four matches, improves The Rock's record to 7-4 overall. Eastern Florida State College falls to 6-4 on the year with the loss.

Eastern Florida jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on Slippery Rock with matching 8-2 wins at second and third doubles. However, SRU avoided the doubles sweep with a win in the first flight as
Carla Corrochano Moracho and
Nina Barbano beat Ana Cristina Orozco and Annaleigh Collings, 8-3.

SRU quickly pulled ahead of EFSC with two huge wins from the middle of its singles lineup.
Tiffany Kollah defeated Collings 6-4, 6-0 while
Amanda Bruscemi beat Nicole Trio 6-1, 6-4.

Barbano then beat Giulianna Hull 6-2, 6-2 for The Rock's fifth point of the match followed by
Allie Welch clinching the match for SRU via a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Ana Cristina Orozco. Barbano's win was her 10th singles victory of the season.

The final two matches of the day saw Ann-Kathrin Ziles defeat
Stephanie Fortier 6-3, 6-4 at fifth singles and Corrochano best Katharina Drebka 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 from the first flight.

Slippery Rock will conclude its time in Florida 1 p.m. March 12 at Embry-Riddle.
