MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team had its two-match winning streak snapped in a 9-0 loss at Florida Tech in Melbourne, Florida Thursday afternoon.
The loss drops SRU's record to 6-4 on the season. Florida Tech, which entered the match ranked 37th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, improves to 7-3 in 2015-16 with the win.
Chloe Chanley and Natasa Vukovic defeated
Carla Corrochano Moracho and
Nina Barbano, 8-4, at No. 1 doubles for FIT's first point of the match.
Erin Egoroff and Meritt Rabson then bested
Amanda Bruscemi and
Stephanie Fortier 8-5 in the second flight for the match's second point.
Florida Tech concluded doubles play with an 8-3 victory from the third slot when Kayla Hergott and Alahna Reto downed
Tiffany Kollah and
Kylee Woodman 8-3.
Florida Tech clinched the match with wins at fifth and sixth singles as
Allie Welch and Fortier lost 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.
Also coming up short in singles play Thursday were Corrochano (3-6, 2-6), Barbano (2-6, 3-6), Kollah (1-6, 3-6) and Bruscemi (2-6, 2-6).
Slippery Rock will look to return to its winning ways with a win against Eastern Florida State College 10 a.m. Friday in Melbourne, Florida.
