Results GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team overcame an early deficit in doubles play to defeat Seton Hill University, 5-4, Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at the Greensburg Racquet Club.
The Rock trailed the Griffins, 2-1, at the conclusion of doubles play before earning four points in singles competition to pull off the comeback victory. The win, Slippery Rock's third straight, improves The Rock's record to 8-7 overall and 2-2 in PSAC matches. SHU falls to 8-7 overall and 1-3 in league play with the loss.
Seton Hill tallied wins at first and second doubles, but SRU's third doubles team of
Ana Petrovic and
Emily Munson registered a critical 8-2 win against Chelsea Pence and Alisha Torretti to give Slippery Rock a piece of the momentum entering the singles portion of the night.
The backend of The Rock's singles lineup started the comeback when
Kylee Woodman recorded a shutout win against Torretti in the sixth flight, 6-0, 6-0. Munson followed Woodman's win with one of her own at fifth singles against Pence, 6-1, 6-0. Woodman is 2-0 in singles matches this season.
The final points of the night for Slippery Rock came at No. 1 and No. 2 singles where
Carla Corrochano Moracho and
Nina Barbano both won their third consecutive singles matches, respectively.
Barbano earned a close 7-5 win against Sara Ruiz in the first set before clinching victory with a convincing 6-2 victory in the second set. After losing her first set to Megan Hudak, 6-4, Moracho posted back-to-back 6-2 victories to claim the win at the first flight. Barbano is now 11-7 on the year with Moracho close behind at 9-8.
Seton Hill's Isidora Knezevic and Paula Carvajalino were winners at third and fourth singles, but it wasn't quite enough to hold off The Rock.
Slippery Rock is back in action at the Bloomsburg Duals on April 11.
