Results SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team lost its regular season finale to nationally ranked California University (Pa.) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play Sunday afternoon at the SRU Tennis Courts.
The loss ends The Rock's season with an overall record of 10-11 and a PSAC-West mark of 3-3. The Vulcans, which are ranked 12th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, improves to 12-3 overall and 6-0 in league games.
SRU's No. 1 doubles team of
Carla Corrochano Moracho and
Nina Barbano played The Vulcans' Lena Dimmer and Veronika Mikulis close early on, but ultimately lost the contest 8-4.
California captured 8-0 wins at second and third doubles as well to take a 3-0 lead going into singles play.
At No. 1 singles, Kiefer Shaw beat Moracho 6-3, 6-2 while Barbano fell in the second flight to Dimmer by matching scores of 6-2, 6-3. Barbano's defeat snapped her seven-match winning streak. Despite the loss, her record still stands at 15-8 on the year.
Ana Petrovic and
Stephanie Fortier were bested at third and fourth singles, respectively, 6-1, 6-2 to Mariela Sarinana and Alice Johns. Slippery Rock's day ended with losses at fifth and sixth singles by
Kylee Woodman (6-1, 6-1) and
Amanda Neidig (6-0, 6-0).
One of the youngest teams in the PSAC in 2014-15, Slippery Rock returns its entire roster next season.
