Rock tennis blanks Clarion

Slippery Rock won its third consecutive PSAC-West match of season with a dominating, 9-0, shutout victory against Clarion University.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team won its third consecutive Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division match of season with a dominating, 9-0, shutout victory against Clarion University Tuesday afternoon at the SRU Tennis Courts.
 
The win, Slippery Rock's fifth overall in its last seven matches, improves The Rock's record to 10-9 on the year overall and to 3-2 in the PSAC-West. Clarion drops to 8-8 overall and 0-5 in league play with the loss.
 
Slippery Rock got out to a 3-0 lead following a trio of doubles victories before winning all six of its singles contests in straight sets.
 
The Rock's No. 1 doubles pairing of Nina Barbano and Carla Corrochano Moracho won their 10th match of the season with an 8-3 triumph against Megan Bettwy and Madeline Robinson.
 
Kylee Woodman and Stephanie Fortier were 8-2 winners at second doubles against Lauren Zezenski and Maria Snyder. Ana Petrovic and Emily Munson also produced an 8-2 win in the third flight over Kaitlyn Mulligan and Jessica Kennelly.
 
Barbano and Woodman both continued their impressive singles winning streaks in the second and third flight, respectively. Barbano improved to 14-7 overall with her sixth consecutive win when she bested Bettwy 6-0, 6-0. Woodman downed Dgien 6-0, 6-0 to move to 5-0 on the year.
 
Moracho nearly blanked Zezenski at No. 1 singles before settling for a 6-1, 6-0 win. Moracho, who has served as The Rock's top singles competitor all season, is now 10-9 in 2014-15.
 
Petrovic claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win against Robinson while Fortier defeated Snyder 6-3, 6-3 in the fourth flight. Munson capped off The Rock's outstanding day with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Kennelly at fifth singles.
 
Slippery Rock will look to continue its strong play when it hosts California (Pa.) Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
