GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak with a dominant 8-1 victory at local rival Grove City College on Monday.

The victory improves The Rock's record to 6-7 overall on the season. Grove City falls to 8-6 on the year with the loss.

The only blemish for Slippery Rock on the day was a loss at third doubles where freshman
Anna Carpenter and sophomore
Stephanie Fortier dropped a tight 9-7 match to Julie Becker and Leah Thomsen.

Every doubles match was close between Grove City and Slippery Rock.
Nina Barbano and
Carla Corrochano Moracho pulled off an 8-4 win against Karolina Lagerrquist and Caroline McGuire in the first flight while SRU's second doubles pairing of junior
Courtney Gallagher and
Ana Petrovic downed Janine Jones and Madi Haskell, 8-5.

SRU quickly added to its 2-1 lead following doubles competition with dominant singles performances.

Barbano and Fortier were both 6-0, 6-0 winners at second and fourth singles, respectively. Barbano is now 9-7 on the year in singles play. Petrovic and Gallagher nearly matched their teammates with 6-1, 6-0 triumphs at No. 3 and No. 5 singles.

Emily Munson continued  to build The Rock's momentum with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Becker in the sixth flight while Moracho won her No. 1 singles match after McGuire retired from the contest with the first set tied 4-4.

Slippery Rock returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at Edinboro on April 2. The match is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
