WEXFORD, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team had its four-match winning streak snapped Sunday in an 8-1 loss to Saginaw Valley State University at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pennsylvania.

The non-conference loss drops The Rock's record to 5-5 overall. Saginaw Valley State, which competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, improves to 10-12 with the win.

The Cardinals got out to a 3-0 lead following doubles play and never looked back.

Nina Barbano and
Carla Corrochano Moracho dropped a tight match to Izabella Ismailova and Erin Doud, 8-5. Lauren Sharp and Meghan Woody bested sophomore
Stephanie Fortier and junior
Courtney Gallagher, 8-3, while SVSU's Shea Donahue and Abigail Shonk downed freshmen
Ana Petrovic and
Anna Carpenter at third doubles.

SRU's lone point of the match came courtesy of Barbano, who was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Doud in the second singles flight. Barbano's victory improved her record on the year to 8-5 overall and 6-3 in dual matches. She has now won four straight matches and six of her last 10 contests.

Ismailova produced matching 6-3 wins against Moracho to claim the match at No. 1 singles while Petrovic was upended by Donahue 6-2, 6-4 to round out the top half of the singles matches.

Fortier fell to Sharp at fourth singles 6-3, 6-2 while Gallagher and sophomore
Emily Munson were also defeated at fifth and sixth singles 6-0, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.

Slippery Rock will open up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Tuesday against Mercyhurst at the SRU Tennis Courts. The match is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.
