Box Score MONROVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team started the spring portion of its 2014-15 schedule with a tough 8-1 loss at Carnegie Mellon Friday night.
Slippery Rock (0-2), which features one of the youngest teams in the region, competed with Carnegie Mellon (4-0), the seventh ranked team in NCAA Division III, in virtually each flight, but was unable to pull off the upset.
Slippery Rock fell behind 3-0 at the end of Friday's doubles matches as the freshmen duo of
Carla Corrochano Moracho and
Nina Barbano were defeated 8-3 in the first flight while the pairings of sophomore

Ana Petrovic and junior
Courtney Gallagher / freshman
Anna Carpenter fell 8-2 and 8-0, respectively at second and third doubles.
The highlight of the night for Slippery Rock came at No. 1 singles where Corrochano Moracho earned a victory over two-time NCAA Tournament qualifier Angella Pratt 7-5, 3-6, 10-8. The triumph was Corrochano Moracho's second singles win of her young collegiate career.
Barbano put up a fight at No. 2 singles before falling to CMU's Nicholle Torres 6-3, 6-1. Fortier and sophomore
Emily Munson also suffered defeats at No. 4 and No. 6 singles. Brooke Tsu beat Fortier 6-2, 6-0 and Raschke bested Munson 6-2, 6-1.
Petrovic and Gallagher were shutout in straight sets at third and fifth singles to end the night.
Slippery Rock will look to pick up its first dual match victory of the season when it hosts Grove City College on Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. The match will take place at Wexford, Pa.
