SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team split a pair of matches in the eastern part of Pennsylvania this weekend to conclude its fall season. SRU lost a close 5-4 decision at West Chester Saturday before rebounding to shutout Holy Family 5-0 Sunday.

Slippery Rock exits the fall with a 2-1 record overall. SRU will return to action in February for the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule.

Saturday's match at West Chester was the closest of the season for SRU. The Rock had a 2-1 lead following doubles play, but the Rams took four singles matches to escape with the win.

Carla Corrochano Moracho and Nina Barbano were 8-6 winners against Claire Uhle and Maddy Shaak in the first flight while Allie Welch and Tiffany Kollah bested Abriana Nolan and Alyssa Rees 8-5 in the third flight.

However, Katrina Jones and Rylee Power were able to beat Amanda Bruscemi and Kylee Woodman 8-1 in the second slot to avoid heading into singles play down three points. Kollah and Welch were both able to grab wins at third and sixth singles, respectively, but it wasn't quite enough as WCU managed to take all the other singles matches for the 5-4 win.

Sunday's match against Holy Family was never in doubt as The Rock jumped out to a 3-0 lead following doubles play and never looked back en route to the 5-0 win.

Welch and Kollah got The Rock's first point with an 8-0 win against Nicole Wright and Jacqueline Clyne. Woodman and Bruscemi followed with a 8-3 triumph against Christina Little and Alina Nerseyan. SRU's top doubles pairing of Barbano and Moracho kept the shutout alive by outlasting Anastasiya Kolodiy and Emerald Adams, 9-7.

Heading into singles play, Slippery Rock was already assured of one point due to Holy Family not having a player to compete in the sixth flight against Welch. SRU earned its fifth and deciding point from the second flight when Barbano beat Adams 6-0, 6-1. With The Rock already assured of the win, the final four singles matches were not finished.

Barbano and Kollah exit the fall as The Rock's top singles competitors with respective records of 7-4 and 6-2. All three of SRU's primary doubles teams have outstanding records as well in Barbano / Moracho (6-1), Bruscemi / Woodman (7-2) and Kollah / Welch (5-2).
