SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to West Liberty University at home Saturday.

The non-conference defeat was The Rock's first team event of the season. The visiting Hilltoppers improved to 6-0 on the year with the win.

Slippery Rock started the day off strong by earning a pair of victories in doubles play. The freshman duo of
Carla Corrochano and
Nina Barbano bested Alex Barr and Emily Dawson 8-5 in the first flight. SRU picked up its second point when
Stephanie Fortier and
Courtney Gallagher defeated Lauren Howard and Ekaterina Pinchuk 8-6.

The Hilltoppers avoided being shutout in doubles thanks to an 8-0 win by Alaina Pauley and Raquel Cabero over
Emily Munson and
Anna Carpenter.

However, Slippery Rock's lead was short lived as West Liberty was able to regroup and take five out of six singles matches to secure the victory.

In addition to her excellent doubles play, Barbano also earned a win in singles competition by edging Dawson 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.

Weather permitting, Slippery Rock will conclude its fall season with three Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contests Oct. 3-4 against East Stroudsburg University, Bloomsburg University and Cheyney University on the neutral courts at Roadman Park in California, Pennsylvania.
