SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team could not overcome a four-goal deficit as the eighth-ranked University of Charleston defeated The Rock 6-2 Wednesday afternoon at James Egli Field in non-conference competition.

Stephen Donnelly assisted on one goal and scored another for a three-point outing to pace Slippery Rock (1-2-0). The assist was his second in as many games while the goal was his first of the season and 17
th of his career.
Josh Allman set up Donnelly's score with his first assist of 2014.

Peter Boylan was responsible for The Rock's other goal after blasting home a header that was setup off of quality passes by Donnelly and
Brandon Chiu, who also produced two shots on goal on the day.

SRU and the Golden Eagles played even through the game's first 18 minutes of action until Charleston (3-0-0) broke the scoreless tie in the 19
th minute on a deep shot by Augusto Maciel. UC proceeded to compile two more goals in the opening half when Felipe Antonio scored off of Leighton Richards' cross at 32:11 followed by Lewis Osborne just getting a desperation shot off that managed to find its way to the back of the net with two seconds remaining in the half to send the Golden Eagles into the break leading 3-0.

Despite falling behind 4-0 five minutes in to the second half, The Rock continued to fight and eventually answered back with back-to-back goals to cut Charleston's lead to 4-2 with under 30 minutes to play.

The rally started when Chiu forwarded a pass to Donnelly who quickly found Boylan who in turn landed a header in the left side of the goal at 56:03. Five minutes later it was Donnelly who was on the receiving end of a quality look from Allman that he used to beat Charleston goalie Justin Bryant for the score.

However, Charleston ended SRU's comeback bid with two late insurance goals by Kevin Feucht and Lewis Osborne en route to the four-goal victory.

As a team, Slippery Rock held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Charleston edged Slippery Rock in shots 18-10.

Steven Rerick took the loss in goal Wednesday for The Rock after allowing all six Charleston goals in addition to making seven saves.

Josh Brake and
Mike Ilodigwe also contributed to The Rock's attack with one shot on goal each.

Osborne led all Charleston players with two goals and one assist. Bryant stopped four shots to earn his first win of the season.

With its first three-game homestand of season now through, The Rock will set out on a three-match road trip starting Saturday at 4 p.m. against Daemen College.
