Rock falls to No. 7 IUP, 15-6

Slippery Rock dropped a 15-6 decision to No. 7 Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday night in PSAC action.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team dropped a 15-6 decision to No. 7 Indiana University (Pa.) Tuesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
 
The loss drops The Rock to 4-7 overall and 1-5 in league action. Indiana remains atop the PSAC standings at 9-2 overall and 7-0 in conference play.

The deciding factor in the game was the draw control circle, where the Crimson Hawks posted a 10-3 advantage in the first half en route to posting a 9-3 lead at the break, a deficit SRU could never overcome.
 
Indiana finished the game with advantages of 43-18 in total shots, 30-23 in ground balls and 14-9 in draw controls and were 12-of-18 on clear attempts. Slippery Rock struggled to clear the ball, going just 14-of-24 and recording 26 turnovers in the game.
 
The Rock were led by Morgan Pettit with three goals, bringing her career tally to 92 goals as she looks to break the century mark. Paige Costantino added two goals and one assist and Erin Wilcox scored one goal to cap the goal scorers.
 
Jess Verbic and Kaytlin Callaghan each handed out one assist to round out the point scorers for SRU.
 
Jordan Wagner made a career-high 15 saves in the losing effort and finished with no turnovers on clear attempts.
 
Indiana was led by eight points from Drew Hayden with a game-high seven goals and one assist. Kim Hooven scored four goals and Brittney Palardy and Amy Weinberg each tallied one goal and two assists.
 
Katie Davis recorded five saves in the winning effort between the posts and Taylor Norwood recorded five caused turnovers and five draw controls.
 
Slippery Rock has six conference games remaining on the 2014 schedule, including three at home and three on the road. The Rock will travel to East Stroudsburg Saturday for a 1 p.m. game before hosting three games in five days next week (April 15, 18, 19).
