Rock to host Gannon in home finale

The Slippery Rock University men’s soccer team will enter the stretch run of its 2014 regular season at 4 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Gannon at James Egli Field in a game that will have a huge impact on the league standings as the season comes to a close.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team will enter the stretch run of its 2014 regular season at 4 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts Gannon at James Egli Field in a game that will have a huge impact on the league standings as the season comes to a close.

Standings Watch: Slippery Rock (8-5-0, 4-3-0) and Gannon (5-7-1, 4-3-1 PSAC) begin play this week ranked fourth and fifth in the league standings. The top six teams qualify for the conference torunament at the end of the season and there are currently just four points separating teams ranked 5-10 in the PSAC.

Gannon snapped a three-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory against Pitt-Johnstown behind goals from Ted Martin and Colm Spillane (Box Score).
 
Scouting Slippery Rock: Donnelly's two-goal performance against Bloomsburg moved him into a tie for 13th place in Rock history with 59 career points. For the year he leads SRU in goals (seven), assists (seven) and points (21). His seven assists are the eighth most by any player in NCAA Division II. Francis and Peter Boylan are tied for second for The Rock with six goals each. Mike Ilodigwe and Matt Sangermano round out The Rock's multi-goal scorers with five and three, respectively. Rerick is 6-5 on the year with two shutouts, 52 saves and a 1.57 Goals Against Average (GAA).  Slippery Rock's 2.23 goals per game rank second in the PSAC, trailing only Mercyhurst's 2.92 average.
 
Scouting Gannon: Robbie Bennett ranks second in the PSAC in goals scored with nine while his 21 total points are tied with Donnelly for the third most in the league. Chad Petterson also has three goals on the Gannon attack. Matt Dixon has been Gannon's primary goalkeeper this year and is 4-6-1 with one shutout, 45 saves and a 2.26 GAA.
 
Series History: Slippery Rock holds a commanding 22-9-1 advantage over Gannon in the all-time series that started in 1968. SRU has won four straight contests against the Golden Knights.
 
Last Meeting: Slippery Rock scored three times, all off of Joshua Gray assists, to defeat Gannon 3-0 on Oct. 16, 2013 in Erie, Pa. Zach Hall, Michael Ramirez and Declan Brennan all scored goals for The Rock (Box Score).
 
Up Next: Slippery Rock closes out the regular season with three road games starting with a trip to Erie, Pennsylvania to play Mercyhurst University on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
