SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, dropping a tight 3-2 decision to Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Heavy rain throughout the entire game caused difficulty for both teams throughout, but Seton Hill was able to score two second half goals, including a penalty kick winner to move to 4-1 overall and remain unbeaten in PSAC action at 3-0. This is the first year the Griffins have been members of the PSAC and they find themselves atop the league standings three weeks into the year.

Slippery Rock was the only PSAC team not to lose a game entering Saturday, but dropped the PSAC opener to fall to 3-1-1 overall and 0-1 in league action.

Seton Hill scored in the 16th minute to take a 1-0 lead but The Rock rallied back with two goals in less than a minute in the 38th and 39th minutes to take a 2-1 lead to halftime.

Rock goalkeeper Joe Agerskow allowed two goals before being forced to leave the game in the 56th minute. Chris Zier made his first appearance and made one save, but could not stop the penalty kick attempt and is credited with the loss.

Seton Hill keeper Jordan Sodhi made four saves in the winning effort and got help from Trevor Martz, who kicked away a sure goal off the line in the first half after a header by Josh Brake.

The scoring opened in the 16th minute when Matt Sangermano fired a long shot from the right side that just clipped the underside of the crossbar and found the back of the net.

The Rock tied the game at 1-1 when Dom Francis was fouled in the box on a corner kick attempt and scored on his penalty kick try in the 38th minute.

Just 42 seconds later Francis broke free down the right side of the field and found Mike Pcholinsky alone in front of the goal. Pcholinsky chipped a perfectly placed shot over the keeper's head to make it 2-1 in favor of Slippery Rock.

Seton Hill tied the game in the 53rd minute when a goal from Martz, who broke free down the left side of the field and just slid the shot under Agerskow as he came out of the crease to challenge.

Saturday's game was the second of three straight home games Slippery Rock will play. The Rock welcomes Cedarville University for a non-conference game Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m. in Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
