CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Slippery Rock University women's tennis coach
Matt Meredith recorded his 250th career victory Sunday afternoon when his squad beat hosting NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional rival University of Charleston, 6-3.
The win improved Meredith's 15-season career record to 250-97 and gave this year's Rock squad a 9-6 record.
Charleston saw its season record fall to 14-10.
The doubles team of senior
Janelle Krantz and junior
Lauren Coggins paced Sunday's winning effort. The tandem teamed up for an 8-4 win in the No. 2 doubles match. Krantz then won a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-8 decision in the No. 4 singles match and Coggins scored a 6-3, 6-0 win in the No. 5 singles match.
The win by Krantz and Coggins accounted for one of two doubles points scored by The Rock. The No. 3 team of junior
Samantha Bruggeman and freshman
Courtney Gallagher won an 8-6 decision.
The final two Rock points came via singles wins by freshman
Sarah Joumond in the No. 1 match (6-3, 7-6 [7]) and senior
Elisabeth Yetiskul (6-1, 6-0) in the No. 3 match.
Sunday's win match was the second in a string of five The Rock are scheduled to play in as many days.
SRU travels to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Indiana U. of Pa. for a 3;30 p.m. match Monday, then host defending conference champion California (Pa.) and division rival Clarion on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.
