WEXFORD, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's tennis team claimed its first victory of the season with a 9-0 win Friday over Division III Grove City College at the Oxford Athletic Club.
The win came following losses in Division II SRU's first four matches this season.
Grove City saw its record fall to 8-4.
Junior
Sarah Joumond, The Rock's No. 1 singles and doubles player, did not compete due to an illness, but her teammates stepped up big time in her absence.
Janelle Krantz and
Lauren Coggins moved up to the No. 1 doubles spot and recorded an 8-3 victory to jumpstart The Rock's victory effort.
Other highlights for The Rock included an 8-0 win by the No. 3 doubles team of
Samantha Bruggeman and
Courtney Gallagher and 6-1, 6-0 singles wins by
Kasey Love,
Elisabeth Yetiskul and Gallagher.
The Rock's next match will be March 14 vs. Atlantic Region rival Winston–Salem State University in Hilton Head Island, S.C. to start of SRU's spring break.
