Indiana (Pa.) women down SRU, 74-48

Indiana handed Slippery Rock a 74-48 defeat on Senior Day Saturday at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.—The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped a 74-48 decision to Indiana University (Pa.) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action Saturday from Morrow Field House.

Saturday's game marked the final home game of the season and the final home game in the career of Slippery Rock seniors Erinne Cunningham, Emilee Vitez and Christa Wodarczyk. The trio was honored in a ceremony prior to the game's opening tip.

Indiana improved to 20-7 overall and 15-6 in PSAC games with the win, while Slippery Rock drops to 4-21 overall and 3-18 in league games. The Rock will close the 2012-13 season Wednesday night at No. 9 Gannon.

Vitez led Slippery Rock with a career-high 13 points and five rebounds, topping her previous career-high of 11 points that was set in 2009. She was the lone SRU player to record double figures. D'Asia Chambers added eight points and Alexas Brown chipped in six points and seven assists.

The Rock shot 29.3 percent from the field (17-of-58), 19.2 percent from beyond the 3-point line (5-of-26) and 75 percent at the free throw line (9-of-12).

Indiana was led by Lindsay Stamp with 18 points and nine rebounds. Zhane Brooks added 12 points, Marina Wareham scored 11 points and Ashley Stoner chipped in 10 points.

The Crimson Hawks shot 40.9 percent from the floor (27-of-66), 33.3 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-18) and 66.7 percent at the free throw line (14-of-21). IUP also won the rebounding battle with a 45-36 advantage in total boards and a 36-12 edge in points in the paint.

Indiana broke a 10-10 tie with 8:01 to play in the first half and never looked back, pushing out to a 31-24 lead at halftime and extending the lead to 39-24 over the first three minutes of the second half.

Slippery Rock cut the deficit to 10 points with 15:35 to play but the Crimson Hawks answered with a 14-0 run to take a 56-32 lead with 11 minutes to play, a deficit The Rock could never recover from.

Wednesday night's game in Erie is scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
