SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team guaranteed itself a home playoff game with a 1-1 double overtime tie Saturday afternoon at Shippensburg University.

The Rock needed a point in the game to guarantee a No. 3 or No. 4 finish in the regular season Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference standings. Slippery Rock will be the No. 4 seed and will host Shippensburg, the No. 5 seed, in the quarterfinals Tuesday (Nov. 5) at 3 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The tie gives Slippery Rock a final regular season record of 13-2-2 overall and a 7-3-1- mark in PSAC games. Shippensburg ends the regular season 9-6-2 overall and 6-4-1 in PSAC games.

The Raiders lone goal in the game Saturday came off a penalty kick in the final minute of the first half.

Slippery Rock tied the game in the 73rd minute and hit the post and the crossbar before time expired, but could not find the winner.

Shippensburg finished the game with advantages of 29-19 in total shots, 12-8 in shots on goal and 21-3 in corner kicks.

Joe Agerskow made his first start in goal since early in the season and made 11 saves for Slippery Rock, only allowing the penalty kick strike.

Clay Sale made eight seven saves in goal for the Raiders.

Neither team could break through in the beginning of the game and it looked as if it would be scoreless at the break, but a Rock foul in the box gave Derrick Roy a penalty kick with 28 seconds left in the half. Roy netted his 11th goal of the year to put the Raiders up 1-0 at the intermission.

Slippery Rock evened the scored in the 77th minute when Ryan Lutke scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Declan Brennan that made it 1-1.

Brennan nearly won the game for SRU in the 89th minute, but his header hit the crossbar and stayed out.

Shippensburg managed an 8-3 edge in shots in the overtime periods, but Agerskow stopped all three shots on target to preserve the tie.

A complete preview of the quarterfinal game, including live coverage options, will be posted at www.RockAthletics.com Monday afternoon.
