SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team scored two goals in the final 1:31, including the winner with just eight seconds left, to defeat Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference thriller Wednesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The game was streamed live in HD to a national audience by Tourbeau Sports as the NSCAA National Game of the Week.

The Rock led 1-0 at halftime, but Millersville stormed back to take a 2-1 lead in the second half. Slippery Rock answered to tie it at 2-2 before the Marauders took a 3-2 lead with just under 10 minutes to play.

Slippery Rock pushed forward and found the tying goal with just 1:31 to play when Dom Francis played a perfect corner kick into the box, where Josh Brake headed it over the keeper to tie the game at 3-3.

It looked like the game was headed for overtime when the ball went out of bounds off a Millersville player with 15 seconds to play, but Joshua Gray sent a long throw-in through the box, where it was headed by Declan Brennan to Francis, who ripped a shot across the crease with just eight seconds left for the winner.

The win improves Slippery Rock to 12-3-1 overall and 7-3 in PSAC games. Millersville drops to 10-5-1 overall and falls into a tie for third in the league standings with SRU with a 7-3 record.

The outcome of the game is significant for both teams in terms of the PSAC playoff seeding and the chances to get into the NCAA National Tournament. The No. 3 and No. 4 seeds in the PSAC playoffs will host quarterfinal games Nov. 5, while the No.5-6 seeds will have to travel. No playoff seeds will be officially set until the outcome of Saturday's games.

Millersville moved past Slippery Rock in the NCAA Regional Rankings that came out Wednesday during the game. The Marauders were ranked No. 4, followed by Slipery Rock at No. 5. Only the top four teams in the region will qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

Wednesday's game featured a host of things that hadn't happened in any game yet this fall for Slippery Rock.

The opening goal was scored in the third minute when Gray sent a long throw-in into the box and Millersville keeper Brad Benzing came out to catch it, but his momentum carried him backwards across the goal line and Gray was credited with a goal.

Millersville made two outstanding plays to take the lead in the second half, first tying the game in the 51st minute when Anthony Fratini scored off an assist from Ben Johnston and then taking a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute when Jaime Vazquez scored off an assist from Andrew Dukes.

The Rock tied the game at 2-2 with a breakaway that was setup after Brennan stole the ball in the defensive end and started the break forward. He passed to Brandon Chiu down the right wing, who found a streaking Peter Boylan in the middle of the field for the goal in the 78th minute.

Millersville regained the lead in the 81st minute when Dukes fired a long shot right at Rock keeper Chris Zier, but Zier misplayed the ball and let it trickle through for a goal to put the Marauders up 3-2.

Brake bailed out his keeper in the 89th minute with his header to tie it and Francis capped off the wild finish with his blast in the 90th minute.

Both teams were credited with 16 total shots in the game. Millersville posted a 12-10 edge in shots on goal and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Zier made eight saves and got help from Gray, who also cleared away a shot attempt in the second half.

Benzing made six saves in the loss for Millersville.

Slippery Rock will close out the regular season on the road at Shippensburg Saturday with a 1 p.m. game. The Raiders are currently in fifth-place in the PSAC standings, three points behind SRU and Millersville.
