No. 23 Rock set for pair of weekend home games

No. 23 Slippery Rock will host a pair of PSAC matches at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium this weekend, welcoming East Stroudsburg Friday and hosting West Chester Saturday for Senior Day.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The 23rd-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team will host a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matches this weekend at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium, welcoming East Stroudsburg at 3:30 p.m. Friday and West Chester at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

Senior Day: Saturday's match will serve as SRU's Senior Day, even though The Rock has one more home game next week. Slippery Rock's six seniors will be honored in a brief pregame ceremony.

Live Coverage: The SRU sports information office will provide live statistics for both games and a live Internet audio feed of the West Chester game at the links above. Live updates will also be posted on The Rock's official Twitter feed during both games (@Rock_Athletics).

Rankings: Slippery Rock is ranked No. 23 in this week's NSCAA national rankings and is ranked third in the first official NCAA Atlantic Region rankings. East Stroudsburg is unranked in either poll. West Chester received votes in the national poll this week and ranks sixth in the regional poll.

Records: Slippery Rock enters the weekend with an overall record of 10-2-1 and a PSAC mark of 5-2. The Rock had a seven-game winning streak snapped last weekend with a 2-1 loss to No. 15 Mercyhurst.

East Stroudsburg has struggled this season and enters the game with an overall record of 2-9-2 and a PSAC mark of 1-6. The Warriors are coming off their only PSAC win of the year, a 3-1 win over winless Pitt-Johnstown.

West Chester enters its game at California Friday with a 9-3-2 overall record and a 7-1-1 PSAC mark. The Golden Rams have already clinched one of the six PSAC playoff spots and are battling with SRU and Gannon for the second spot in the standings currently.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock is outscoring opponents 30-9 and outshooting the opposition 200-161.

Stephen Donnelly leads the team with six goals and two assists, while Michael Ramirez has added six goals and one assist and Zach Hall has four goals and three assists.

Dom Francis has three goals and three assists and Joshua Gray leads the team and ranks fourth in the country with nine assists. Declan Brennan has added three goals and one assist and Brandon Chiu has three goals to cap the top scorers.

SRU leads the region in goals against average and save percentage and ranks third nationally in save percentage.

Chris Zier has won seven-of-eight starts for SRU and owns a 7-2 record with a 0.72 goals against average and an .880 save percentage. He leads the PSAC and the region in both categories and ranks fifth in the nation in save percentage. Joe Agerskow has started five games and owns a 3-0-1 record with a 0.60 goals against average and an .864 save percentage.

Streaking: The Rock has been defeated in just six games dating back to the beginning of last season, going unbeaten in 28-of-34 games.

Scouting the Warriors: East Stroudsburg is being outscored 33-11 and outshot 208-169 by opponents.

Nemanja Nikolic leads the team with three goals, while Jonathan Stuppe has two goals and one assist and Derek Lopez and Andrew McGinley each have two goals. Ben Roda and Matthew Geidner each have one goal and two assists to cap the top scorers.

Callum Hampson has started 11 games in goal for ESU and is 1-9-1 with a goals against average of 2.81 and a save percentage of .605. J.B. Pahls has started two games and is 1-0-1 with a 1.09 goals against average and a .786 save percentage.

Scouting the Golden Rams: Entering the weekend, West Chester is outscoring opponents 28-14 and outshooting the opposition 220-178.

The Rams are led by Conor Malarney with nine goals. Miguel Ross has six goals and one assist, Tommy Ryan has two goals and two assists and Roberto Silva has five assists to cap the top scorers. Those four have more than 50% of the team's total points on the year.

Ryan Shultz had started 11 games for West Chester and owned a 7-3-1 record with a 1.02 goals against average and a .796 save percentage.

SRU-ESU Series: East Stroudsburg owns a 19-5-1 advantage in the all-time series with the lone tie coming last fall when the teams battled to a scoreless draw after two overtime sessions.

Last Meeting with ESU: (Box Score) Slippery Rock managed an incredible 14-1 advantage in corner kicks, but could not find the back of the cage in settling for a scoreless draw at East Stroudsburg, Oct. 6, 2012.

Callum Hampson made three saves in goal for ESU, while Clayton Master made three saves as well for SRU.

SRU-WCU Series: West Chester owns an 11-8 advantage in the all-time series, but Slippery Rock owns the most recent win, a 1-0 victory in the PSAC semifinals last fall.

Last Meeting with WCU: (Box Score) Stephen Donnelly scored the game-winner in the 84th minute to lead Slippery Rock to a 1-0 win in the PSAC semifinals Nov. 3, 2012 in Erie, Pa. at Mercyhurst.

Clayton Master posted a shutout between the posts with five saves.

West Chester finished the game with advantages of 16-12 in total shots and 5-3 in corner kicks.

Head Coaches: Michael Bonelli is in his fourth season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. Bonelli has posted a record of 39-21-10 during his SRU tenure. He has led the program to two berths in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs and one appearance in the conference title game.

Rob Berkowitz is in his seventh season as the head coach of the women's soccer team and his third as the head coach of the men's program. He is the only coach in the PSAC still handling the head coaching duties for both the men's and women's programs at his school. He owns a 10-29-8 overall record as the men's coach at ESU.

Michael Benn is in his first season as the head coach at West Chester, where he has led the team to a 9-3-2 overall record and a berth in the PSAC playoffs this fall. Prior to becoming the head coach at West Chester, he served seven seasons as an assistant coach at Lehigh University.

Up Next: Slippery Rock will host Millersville next Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the NSCAA TV National Game of the Week. The game will be live video streamed and available across the nation. The Rock then closes the regular season at Shippensburg Nov. 2.
