JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The 17th-ranked Slippery Rock University men's soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday evening in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.
The win was the third in a row overall and the first conference win of the season for The Rock, which saw their season records improve to 6-1-1 overall and 1-1 in league play.
Pitt-Johnstown, playing in its first season as a member of the PSAC, saw its records drop to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in conference games.
Slippery Rock was dominant in Wednesday's game, allowing only five total shots and just one shot on goal in the game.
The Rock finished with advantages of 29-5 in total shots, 10-1 in shots on goal and 8-1 in corner kicks.
The visitors got goals from four different players and assists from three others in the win.
Zach Hall opened the scoring just 4:18 in when he headed in his third goal of the year directly off a corner kick from
Joshua Gray, who was credited with his team-leading fourth assist on the play.
Slippery Rock added to the lead in the 16th minute when
Stephen Donnelly tallied his second goal of the year after finishing a cross from Hall.
The Rock pushed the lead out to 3-0 in the 26th minute when
Michael Ramirez netted his team-leading fourth goal of the season through traffic after a corner kick.
The final tally of the game came just 10 minutes later in the 36th minute when
Stephen McConahy tallied his second goal of the season off an assist from
Ryan Lutke.
Chris Zier earned his third win and second shutout in goal for Slippery Rock after recording one save. Tim Ofman took the loss in goal for the Mountain Cats after recording six saves.
Slippery Rock returns to action Monday night when it hosts California (Pa.) in a PSAC match at 7 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
