Rock travels to Alderson-Broaddus Saturday

Slippery Rock will hit the road for the first time this season when it travels to Alderson-Broaddus for a 4 p.m. match Saturday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season when it travels to Alderson-Broaddus Saturday for a 4 p.m. non-conference match.

A brief game preview is posted below.

Head Coaches: Michael Bonelli is in his third season at the helm of the Slippery Rock program. Bonelli has posted a record of 19-15-5 in his three seasons, including an 11-7-1 mark and a berth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs in 2010. Prior to his time at SRU, Bonelli spent five seasons as an assistant coach at the Division I level, with stints at Northwestern and Lafayette. He received a bachelor's degree in physical education from SUNY Cortland in 2004.

Dan Kelly is in his 14th season as the head coach at Alderson-Broaddus, where is also a physical education instructor.

Series History: This will be the sixth meeting between the two teams, but the first since 2008. The Battlers hold a 3-2 edge in the series. Slippery Rock was victorious in the most recent meeting, a 4-0 win at SRU Oct. 15, 2008.

Scouting The Rock: Slippery Rock opened the season with back to back double overtime ties before picking up its first win in emphatic fashion, defeating Seton Hill 6-1 Wednesday to improve to 1-0-2 on the year. Chris Davis leads the team with three goals, while Mike Roopchandsinhg has one goal and three assists and Stephen Donnelly has two goals. Joshua Gray has one goal and one assist and Max Aronica, Anthony Jack and Michael Ramirez all have one goal. Drew Donoghue has two assists and Dominic Canello and Brandon Chiu each have one assist to cap the scorers. Clayton Master is 1-0-2 in goal and has allowed four goals for a 1.22 goals against average and made 13 saves for a .765 save percentage. The Rock is outshooting opponents 57-39 and outscoring the opposition 10-5.

Scouting the Battlers: Alderson-Broaddus will face Cedarville College Friday afternoon before hosting Slippery Rock Saturday. Going into that match, the Battlers were 1-1 on the year with a 7-1 win over Washington Adventist and a 6-1 loss to the University of Charleston. The Battlers have matched their opponents with 24 total shots and are being outscored 7-6. Austin Martin leads the team with three goals. Jose Noriega, Ryan Gump and Chris Oliverio all have one goal and Paul Ogedegbe has one assist to cap the point scorers. Matt Robins has started both games in goal and is 1-1 with a goals against average of 3.12 and a save percentage of .400.

Last Meeting: (Box Score) Slippery Rock handed Alderson-Broaddus a 4-0 defeat at Egli Field in 2008.

Jeremy Deighton scored two goals and added two assists to lead SRU, which also got a goal from Anthony Paganie and another from Kenneth Fultz.

Greg Blum earned the shutout in goal for SRU with three saves, and current Rock keeper Master played the final 29:29 in his freshman season.

The Rock outshot Alderson-Broaddus 12-8 and posted a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
