Rock rolls over Seton Hill, 6-1

Slippery Rock remained unbeaten on the 2012 season with a dominant 6-1 win over Seton Hill Wednesday at Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team picked remained unbeaten on the season with a dominant 6-1 win over Seton Hill University Wednesday afternoon at Egli Field.

The Rock, which opened the season with back-to-back double overtime ties last weekend, picked up its first win to improve to 1-0-2 on the year. Seton Hill dropped to 0-3-0 overall, with all three losses coming to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference teams. The Griffins will officially join the PSAC as full members next fall.

Wednesday's game was tightly contested through the first half, with just one goal scored and identical statistics between the two teams. Mike Roopchandsingh converted a long pass from Drew Donoghue to score his first goal in a Rock uniform at the 6:03 mark.

The two teams finished the first half with five shots, two corner kicks and five fouls each. The Rock posted a 4-3 edge in shots on target.

Slippery Rock proved to be too much in the second half, netting five goals and posting advantages of 14-6 in total shots and 3-0 in corner kicks. The Rock finished the game with advantages of 19-11 in total shots, 12-5 in shots on goal and 5-2 in corner kicks.

Roopchandsingh finished the game with one goal and one assist and Donoghue finished with two assists. Stephen Donnelly tallied two goals to join them as multiple point producers.

The Rock also got goals from Chris Davis, Max Aronica and Michael Ramirez. The goal from Aronica was his first collegiate goal, while Ramirez's tally was his first since 2010. Brandon Chiu, Dominic Canello and Joshua Gray all picked up assists in the game.

Clayton Master played 76:12 in goal to earn the win for Slippery Rock, recording four saves and allowing no goals. Joe Agerskow played the final 13:48 and allowed the lone goal, a long shot from Joe Tchimou that bounced off the cross bar and down over the goal line.

Jordan Sodhi took the loss in goal for Seton Hill, playing 62:59 and allowing three goals while recording four saves. He was ejected with a red card at 62:59. Scott Matthews played the final 27:01 and allowed three goals while making two saves.

The Rock broke the game open with a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half. Donnelly notched his first of the year off an assist from Roopchandsingh in the 49th minute to make it 2-0 and Davis scored his third of the year in the 59th minute off a double assist. Gray's long free kick from the right side found Donoghue, who headed it far post to a diving Davis for the score.

Donnelly increased the lead to 4-0 in the 66th minute when he scored into the upper right corner off a cross from Chiu and Aronica made it 5-0 with his first collegiate tally in the 77th minute after deflecting in a pass from Canello.

Tchimou broke up the shutout with his ricochet goal in the 79th minute and Ramirez capped the scoring with an unassisted strike into the lower left corner from 30 yards out in the 87th minute.

Slippery Rock, which played its first three games at home, will hit the road for the first time when it travels to Alderson-Broaddus College Saturday for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference match.
