SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team suffered a 3-1 defeat to California University (Pa.) Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

With the loss, Slippery Rock drops to 4-2-3 overall and 0-2-0 in PSAC games. California improves to 4-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league action.

Slippery Rock struck first in Friday's game when Ryan Lutke scored off a double assist from Drew Donoghue and Joshua Gray in the sixth minute.

California evened the match at 1-1 in the 17th minute when Billy Wilson scored off long throw in from Brad Colvin. His throw careened off the crossbar and found Wilson for an empty net goal.

The Vulcans took the lead for good in the 32nd minute when Christopher Karns scored on another fluky throw in from Colvin. This time, the throw landed in the box and found Karns' foot, who put it home near post.

After Slippery Rock was forced to play with 10 men for the final 32 minutes, California took advantage of an odd man rush and scored the final goal in the 73rd minute. Ryan Slaby fired a long shot that hit the crossbar and ricocheted to a wide open Chris Moehler, who headed the ball into the empty net.

California finished the game with advantages of 16-10 in total shots and 7-4 in shots on goal. Slippery Rock posted a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Shane Donovan earned the win in goal for the Vulcans after recording three saves. Clayton Master took the loss, recording four saves in the process.
